Thanks for all the thoughts guys,

right now I have :

21 Elmarit-M ASPH

24 Elmarit-M ASPH

28 Summicron ASPH

35 Summaron f2.8

35 Summilux ASPHERICAL

50 Elmar-M

50 Summilux pre asph VII

90 Elmarit-M

I am very happy with all and use mostly 35, followed by 50 & 28 then 24, 21 and rarely 90.

Based on your tastes as expressed here and in other threads, I would reckon the 75mm Summilux is more your cup of tea, and it sounds like the focal length is better for you as well.

I hear the folk saying "don't sell a Leica lens", but if you don't use one, its just wasted capital lying around not working for you.

I look forward to you posting your results when you get the f1 Noctilux - I don't particularly like the "swirly bokeh" of the older lenses (see the old glass thread) - they give me vertigo. The ASPH lenses have the potential for more pleasing oof rendering.

For some stupid reason, I bought a 90 Summicron from Ken Hansen earlier this week - before you started this thread, and before the other 90 mm thread started - odd.

My keepers, in order of preference, are:

Noctilux 0.95 (which is FLE & ASPH, and apparently APO)

Summicron 28 (ASPH)

Summilux 75

Summilux 35 (ASPH FLE)

Summilux 21 (ASPH)

Jury is out on the 90 Summicron until I try it. I may well just sell it again as a stupid impulse buy. I also have a 50 Summilux (also ASPH FLE & APO), which lives on my M3. I realise my lenses are all quite similar in rendering (with the exception of the 75), but I find that helpful.

Lenses for the block at this stage are an Elmar 135 f/4 and my Zeiss Distagon 15 mm f2.8 ZM.

If I were reduced to one lens, it would also be the Noctilux, I think. Then again, it could be the 50 or 35 Summilux just as easily ... Actually, the 35 Summilux is probably more of a keeper.

Hmm ...

I agree John, while my Noctilux is my favourite lens. I couldn't do without the 35mm focal length and that summilux is something special. It gives me most of the love of a Noctilux.

Did you get the APO 90? I'm considering that one at the moment.

But the 1.0/50 E 60 Noctilux is not a 'swirly bokeh' lens. You would well know my preference for the modern lenses but this one does not fall into that category.

You mean uncontrolled GAS:rolleyes:

I've recently bought a 3.4/135 APO-Telyt and PC 2.8/28-R for the same stupid reason:D

I have promised myself no more lenses:rolleyes:

You mean the 50 Summilux ASPH or the new 50 Summicron APO ?

Summilux - it's apparently APO as well, though not in its designation. Has anyone actually got their production APO Summicron 50 yet?

The reason for making the comment is that each lens has its own character - Nx & Sx 50s (both ASPH FLE & APO) are different, the Sx 75 apparently shares some of its DNA with the f1 Nx, the others - Sx 35 (FLE), Sn 28 & Sx 21- are all ASPH, but differ in other ways. The AA Sn 90 is apparently tack sharp, but I fear a beast to focus. The AA Sn 75 and I fell out over focusing.

Will be interesting to see. To be honest, I'm still feeling my way with these lenses - the Noct has been amazing so far.

Cheers

John
