And now look, the old air cooled 911's are priced CRAZY. Maybe I will hold on to my wife's 200 actuation M9. Then again like you have said a digital camera has a limited lifetime, it's the old film cameras that hold appeal as long as their is film for them. I am looking forward to the benefits of live view / EVF for focusing in difficult situations and with difficult lenses. And I don't intend to sell my M9, so I can enjoy the benefits of both cameras. However, I have no stock of R lenses waiting to be used on the new M. I considered for a short time buying some used R lenses to be able to use with this camera. But I have decided not to worry about it. I expect Leica will be releasing some new telephoto and macro M lenses to take advantage of the capabilities of the new M, and probably Zeiss and CV will as well, so I think I will wait patiently for those rather than waste my time and dollars chasing R lenses that have suddenly become a "hot" item. As for a wish list, I would love to see a 100mm macro (with true 1:1 macro) f/2.8 apo lens, and perhaps a 200mm f/2.8 apo telephoto for the M mount. That would pretty well satisfy my wants/needs. HI Dirk There are so many good lenses . . I just got an Olympus Zuiko 200mm f4 for €149 in mint condition - it's a delightful lens, compact, and extremely good quality, lovely smooth focusing ring and aperture. I'm sure that the R equivalent will be better . .. and bigger as well. For the time being I can use it as a 400mm on my OMD - when the M arrives, then I'll give it a try on that, if it isn't up to the task, then I imagine I'll recover my Euros! I also have a zuiko 135 f3.5, which is hardly bigger than the APO telyt, and almost as well made . . . . and cost . . . €25 (again, mint condition). I also have a selection of R lenses - which are also fine on the OMD whilst I'm waiting! The joy of the M is the opportunity to explore so many old and reasonably priced full frame lenses without much financial risk . . . of course there are all those Contax Zeiss lenses too! M files? what M files? Actually, I have the 28-90, and the 180 2.8 APO . . . . expensive - and getting more so The 70-180 is apparently sublime (but my back isn't!). But I suspect the real winners will be the f4 lenses (much smaller, and if the high ISO is good . . . ) - so it's the 21-35, 35-70 and 80-200 which seem to me the most likely contenders - and apart from being much smaller, they're also much cheaper. wlaidlaw Posted November 13, 2012 Share #213 Posted November 13, 2012 I assume the 28-90 must be made out of unobtanium, sprinkled with diamond dust from the prices (around £3-4,000) and at f2.8, it must be quite generously sized and reasonably heavy as well. I am prepared to use a heavy lens for those times I need a long lens and have bought an 80-200 f4 Vario Elmar R and am getting a Visoflex replacement adapter made for my long Telyts. However, to have a big zoom on the front of an M all the time, rather negates a main raison d'être of the RF camera. I find even having my 28-35-50 Tri Elmar on the front, makes the combination a bit clumsy. I have been rather disappointed over the last few days, since I acquired and have been using an Olympus VF-2, so I think it is not quite the everyday solution we were hoping for. I believe most will want to keep using the OVF rather than the EVF whenever possible, as it is a country mile better. That means RF coupled M lenses not R or other non-RF coupled lenses will still be the optimum choice. It will be interesting to see who is first out of the blocks with a long purpose made RF coupled, M fit lens. With focus peaking, it ought to be possible to focus at least 180mm lens, after all, I can do so with an Olympia Sonnar on my Contax IIA. I also hope Leica is looking around for a better VF than the Olympus one. I suspect it may need to be physically a bit bigger to incorporate a larger screen or else have a lot more dots with at least 1.5x magnification in place of the 1.15 x of the current EVF-2, to arrive at a visually larger appearing screen. A user-grade one should be relatively affordable (750-1250 $ range). The image quality is beyond reproach. If you consider one, get it now. It is going to be very popular on the M.
