Jerren Posted October 12, 2012 Share #1 Posted October 12, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) So I just shot my first roll of film with my M2. And I had to use the dreaded vertical rewind. I'm sorry but I just didn't see what the big deal was with it. I don't see why this process puts people off so much. Granted, I wasn't in a situation where I had to quickly rewind it and load more film but come on people, It just doesn't seem like that horrible of a feature. Heck didn't Leica even go back to the vertical winder on the MP because its more reliable? Speaking of loading film, I don't see whats so hard about that part either. When I was trying to decided between the M2 and the M4-P I saw a bunch of people mentioning how loading film was a pain in the M2. Again I don't see the issue. Am I missing something? After just a roll and a half of film, I see how people fall in love with using this camera. It is a a joy to shoot with.

Ulrik Posted October 12, 2012 Share #3 Posted October 12, 2012 You will even find people warning you about the early "button-rewind" Leica M2. This is nonsense as well. Pressing this button during rewinding is no problem at all if you hold the camera body right. Ulrik
UliWer Posted October 12, 2012 Share #4 Posted October 12, 2012 So I just shot my first roll of film with my M2. And I had to use the dreaded vertical rewind. After just a roll and a half of film, I see how people fall in love with using this camera. It is a a joy to shoot with. When I first saw an MP, I thought: "How ridiculous! They are charging extra money for a handle to upgrade this primitive riwinding knob!" When I tried the first screw-mount Leica, I thought: "It will be awful to rewind with this knob.". Then I did and it worked smoothly without any problem - much better than with the crank handle of the M6. Same for M3 and M2. Why should one try to improve something which does its duty faultlessly? (Hint to LED-lighted viewfinder frames was intended).
pico Posted October 12, 2012 Share #5 Posted October 12, 2012 When my film runs to the end of the roll I just sent it all to Solms.
250swb Posted October 13, 2012 Share #6 Posted October 13, 2012 Am I missing something? . People buy an old camera and don't realise that the 'clutch' in the rewind shaft needs adjusting. So when it keeps unwinding when they let go of it they complain. Steve
