The Gent. Posted September 22, 2012 Share #1 Posted September 22, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello. I am new to this forum and this is my first post, so hello everyone. I got my M8 back from a service by Leica and the sensor was a bit grubby. I used my Arctic butterfly which I have also used with no problems with my Nikon DSLR. On the M8 the butterfly left some streaks behind so I thought that it was contaminated so I cleaned the brush with 99% isopropyl let it dry and tried again with the same streaky result. I ended up using the sensorklear lens pen and it cleaned it up nicely. Has anybody else found the same thing when using the butterfly? Or has it got anything to do with the fact that the M8 sensor not having an IR filter? Thanks

tobey bilek Posted September 23, 2012 Share #5 Posted September 23, 2012 Blower first and stop if clean. Eclipse if needed. See instructions on Copperhill site and fowwow them exactly including how to slant the swab. Multi thousand dollar camera and you want to experiment with wrong solutions. I don`t get it. lct Posted September 23, 2012 Share #6 Posted September 23, 2012 ...Has anybody else found the same thing when using the butterfly? Never used the butterfly but the M8 sensor does have an IR-cut filter and i doubt its sensitiveness to some IR radiations has any influence on the way of cleaning it. Eclipse and Sensor Swabs work fine on my Leica, Epson, Nikon and Canon sensors. FWIW.

LucisPictor Posted September 25, 2012 Share #8 Posted September 25, 2012 Thanks Guys. Seems like the butterfly isn't the way to go. That is really weird. I have used the butterfly for the sensors of me Canons, Sonys, Nikon and Pentax. Worked well each time. I have not tried it for the sensor of the M8, though. The Gent. Posted October 2, 2012 Author Share #9 Posted October 2, 2012 That is really weird. I have used the butterfly for the sensors of me Canons, Sonys, Nikon and Pentax. Worked well each time.I have not tried it for the sensor of the M8, though. I have just found the problem. I gave the arctic butterfly a 2 minute blow dry with a hair dryer. The hairs went a bit frizzy but then I tried it on my M8 and the streaks have gone. Seems that the hairs are absorbing moisture from the air.
