satijntje Posted September 19, 2012 Share #3 Posted September 19, 2012 Also new M8u user (1 week), with one lens only: the Summicron 50mm version III Started last week with the 40mm CL which is a great lens for a starter as it is in the 400 Euro budget range, but I was able to replace it this week with a mint 50mm Summicron. Was able to trade in the 40mm for the same amount that I paid, so no losses (for the moment :-))) Reason for changing from 40mm to 50mm: I did not like the uncertainty for the framing size of the images..... iLikeLeica Posted September 19, 2012 Share #4 Posted September 19, 2012 @Satijntje - I think you will need to get some experience built up with the different lenses & distance to subject to really get robust feel for the 'framing'. The rangefinder frames are not entirely accurate as they are configured to frame very accurate only at a specific distance if i'm not wrong.
satijntje Posted September 19, 2012 Share #5 Posted September 19, 2012 maybe, but the M8 gives more accurate framing for 50mm as for 40mm that's a fact! John
jedi996sps Posted September 19, 2012 Share #6 Posted September 19, 2012 I have had an M8 from when they first were introduced. Great camera :-)

lct Posted September 19, 2012 Share #8 Posted September 19, 2012 Except for closeups, the Summicron 40/2 and other 40mm lenses do get the most accurate framing on the M8 (not the M8.2). But you need to file the flange of the lens to bring up 35mm framelines. Very easy to do.
IWC Doppel Posted September 19, 2012 Share #9 Posted September 19, 2012 I still pop back on to this section having bought my M9-P in April, If I hand't wanted to go wider than an effective 28mm I would still have my M8 I think the 8 and 9 will be holding their own with CCD sensors for a few years yet
