Hasselblad Lunar

Hasselblad need to concentrate on the V series to get back those tens of thousands of user it pushed to one side.

Porsche didn't do that with its cars, and Leica didn't with its core cameras.

Wake up Hasselblad !

They could make a start with a FF digi back, and a very wide lens c24mm.

What they've introduced today looks like it was borrowed from Thunderbirds!

Bruno

They could even make a 500C in the classic design with a 35mm FF sensor. Now that would be fantastic. Instead...

It's no joke. But it should be, it's hideous.

Coming from the original Blads, what was and still is the one of the most beautiful cameras made (and a design classic) Hasselblad has an awful lot to answer for. Leica receives flack for it's limited editions but thank god we don't get a red 'Ferrari Edition'. The H5D looks equally dopey. Stop trying to be different and just make a camera that is a simple design classic.

The design of a special edition Leica is barely changed or not changed at all... and you get a true Leica M. With Lunar you get not a Hassi, you get a Sony nex7 packed in some kind of skin... Nothing here is from Hasselblad...besides the name...

And the price

At least when Leica rebadge a Panasonic they only hike the price a little (and usually give a longer warranty/better software as part of the deal). How can Hasselblad justify a what?, 5X price hike for a garish overstyled body!!

You don't have to look at it. You will look at the screen or into the EVF.

Somebody knows, how it feels in the hand? How is the user interface? What are the technics?

That would be important.

The immediate reaction after the click is interesting already. Also puzzles me, why they have chosen for an APS-C sensor?

I - for me - need neither a time dial nor a traditional look.

exactly.....a D-Lux camera is based on a $500+ Panasonic....but the D-Lux comes in at what? $800 or something? A small price hike for a more aesthetically pleasing camera with more software and a better warranty.

Unless Hasselblad has done some MEGA changes to the internals of this Nex-7....that extra $4k is just going to their "italian designer" who has made possibly the ugliest digital camera i've ever seen. lol.

There is a show report on popphoto.com, it sounds like Hassy is going to develop their own glass for E-mount.

Yeah and they said this, "When it starts shipping at the beginning of next year, the Lunar will come with a kit lens that looks very much like the 18-55mm Sony kit lens. According to the rep, though, it is Hasseblad glass, which is why it wears the Hasselblad badge. Two more lenses are apparently on the way, but it will even use E-mount lenses."

Aren't they all by definition "E-mount lenses?"

So where is this "Hasselblad glass" coming from if not from Sony? And why would anyone else be making an 18-55 that looks like the Sony lens? Hasselblad has never made their own lenses. Maybe if Sony puts a Hasselblad name on the lens and lenscap it becomes one just as with other rebranded items. I can't wait to see the price of the lenses.

I'm suspecting this all has something to do with Zeiss ... lending the name at least, coincidentally, Zeiss announced their plan to produce AF lenses for E mount and X mount at the show, right?

It is named the Luna because it is priced on the moon.

Hasselblad: "For example, the camera's body is made of aluminum. It takes five hours to machine this down.

Wouldn't casting and then machining the body be more cost-effective?

They aren't carving high performance auto engine heads.

This seems to be one of the most sought after new cameras. Why? My dealer is already "sold out" and because Hasselblad can only produce five bodies/day I see no chance to get one anymore!

p.s. In case they forgot how to design a nice camera, there are some real luna-Hassis left by NASA on moon, rumours say.

It has an ostentatious look that I cannot stand. Pretty for a showcase, maybe, but I'd not be seen with it in public. I might have my mistress carry it, however.

Seriously, it is over-the-top appearance driven.

Really?

What about the stupid pink and green X2?

If one buys that, they are not interested in photography. They are interested in being SEEN.

It's moment like this, when I only feel sympathy ... no anger, not even disappointment.

How much European pride are there still left? Without Sigma, there will be no "Maestro" processor for the S2 and "M", without Panasonic, how could Leica cope with the compact cameras and X1/X2 (whose product manager was hired from Panasonic)?

Give Hasselblad a chance and some time, it won't take too long before we see what they can do. :-)
