Advertisement Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Hi fotografr, Take a look here Street Photography. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest Ming Rider Posted August 31, 2012 Share #2 Posted August 31, 2012 In my opinion I would class it as Portraiture so would place it in People, as there is little information to suggest a street context. For example, he could be a character in a Charles Dickens Play. Incredibly competent image though. One second later, the shot would have gone. Well done. stuny Posted August 31, 2012 Share #3 Posted August 31, 2012 Brent - Superb, and you think you need to come to NYC for unusual people? Please don't tell me he's a chef at work.

erl Posted August 31, 2012 Share #5 Posted August 31, 2012 Superb bit of imagery, with a timeless feel. This is what is sooo good about photography. Seeing an example of "being ready, and able'' when the moment blinks at you.

mgcd Posted September 1, 2012 Share #8 Posted September 1, 2012 Brent - I'm glad you posted this excellent image. I believe I may have seen it previously. Wonderfully done. The fact that some people feel it belongs to the "People" category as portraiture leads me to ask a question that I have been burning to. What indeed is street photography? This is a serious query as I truly have no idea what it could possibly be. Is it meant to be a documentary type image without narrative content? I am honestly confused with that title. Is it an image taken literally on the street? What if there is no street? I'm feeling ill at ease thinking that it may just be a catch all category for a set of images without compelling visual narratives. I would love to have an interesting discussion on this topic as I have never really understood the term "street photography". Cheers,
erl Posted September 1, 2012 Share #9 Posted September 1, 2012 mgcd, your question is quite valid and prone to some argument. Your 'guess' could be true, but no explanation is going to be complete. I don't wish to derail Brent's thread but will briefly state that generally the pic needs to be on the street, or close by, not premeditated and genrally not arranged. The subject(s) if included are generally unaware of their inclusion, but not necessarily and have no connection with the photographer. It usually involves setting out with the intention of shooting 'something', but no knowledge of what! OTOH, some will probably disagree with me, fine and valid. This is far from an exhaustive explanation but I shall refrain from elaborating in this thread.
