earleygallery Posted August 28, 2012 Share #4 Posted August 28, 2012 I would seriously wait until Leica have clarified the position with spares. As it stands, break your LCD and the camera is pretty much useless. If this remains the case M8 prices should plummet. If you still then want to take the risk buy from a dealer who offers a 12 month warranty.

Dilemma cheap eBay no warranty or dealer and warranty I scoured ebay and craigslist before i picked mine up on Friday. I found a local seller here in NYC with 2 M8s.....the one i bought had 8.2 updates done to the shutter and framelines (still not sure about the glass though...although i'm almost sure it is sapphire). very gently used and visually almost mint. the seller turned out to be a fairly well known photographer online....so it turned out well for me. a nice guy who has lots of cameras and knows how to maintain them! jaapv Posted August 29, 2012 Share #6 Posted August 29, 2012 A sapphire screen will have an almost invisible diamond marking etched in at the lower edfge.

Do you need Uv filter for B&W ? And do they ave to be special one or any of the right size will do?

Now is time to read the manual lol Great Price! The 50/1.5 goes for almost $500 by itself. Very sharp lens. This lens uses 52mm filters. I use a Tiffen "Hot Mirror" filter, a pro-grade IR cut filter with mine. Do an Ebay search for "Hot Mirror" and sometimes you get them inexpensively. The IR cut filters/ Hot mirror filters are required as the IR absorbing filter on the M8 is too weak.

lct Posted August 30, 2012 Share #13 Posted August 30, 2012 Just to avoid misunderstandings, UV and UV/IR are not the same filters right? UV/IR, i.e. IR-cut filters are not required at all for B&W photography but they may give the feeling of a higher sharpness sometimes. In practice, if you do both color and B&W works you will need UV/IRs for color and there is no reason to remove them for B&W if you don't shoot light sources in the frame, otherwise you might get some flare and/or ghost images, especially in the dark.
