Advertisement Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Hi Guest Ming Rider, Take a look here Leica Forum: New Structure . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted August 23, 2012 Share #22 Posted August 23, 2012 Looking at this again I think it is pretty good, but wonder if it could be simplified? Why not combine Leica M9/M9-P/Leica M Monochrom plus Leica M8/M8.2 into Leica M Digital? Leica M7/MP and Film M could be Leica Film Cameras to include R and Barnacks (some overlap with the latter in Historica). Leica X1-X2 may need a name change when new models appear. Ditto for Leica D-Lux/Digilux/V-Lux. Probably best to keep separate or could be combined as Leica Digital Compacts. Probably because it makes it easier for Google searches to find the sections. Peter H Posted August 23, 2012 Share #23 Posted August 23, 2012 Could we please have a new sub-forum for those of us who want fewer sub-forums to bemoan our fate? Thank you.
Guest Ming Rider Posted August 23, 2012 Share #24 Posted August 23, 2012 I think, purely as an experiment in simplicity, the whole forum should be placed in a single category called "Photography". Then again, that just produced a mental image of Sharks around a dead Whale. Would make the mod's earn their 'bread & cheese' though
iLikeLeica Posted August 23, 2012 Share #25 Posted August 23, 2012 I'm with some of the members around the Digital M section ... a lot of the threads span the m8/m9 series... Being an M8 'holder' at this point i just see that intensity in the M8 section is slowing down a bit and I find myself browsing the M9 forum quite a lot.. On the People side - yea, portraits/street portrait/modelling may just require a slight bit more thought... apart from that - thanks a lot to the people running the show here, this place has been an enourmous aid for me on my 2.5 year Leica Journey! tomasis7 Posted August 27, 2012 Share #26 Posted August 27, 2012 I would love new B&W section, any thoughts about it?
colonel Posted August 30, 2012 Share #27 Posted August 30, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Looks likely that there will be a new M10 section as well? Why not just have an amalgamated catch-all Digital M forum instead? Many issues are the same after all. It's important to have a sub-forum for each camera. They have unique issues. Taking into account comments here, there should be a "digital m" forum and sub-forums for each camera. This allows general digital m queries to go into the top folder In addition, there should be a sub-folder under "digital m" called "software inc. raw processing and picture editing) Best rgds
colonel Posted August 30, 2012 Share #28 Posted August 30, 2012 Thanks mods for this review It is overdue and looks good One point, I think there will be confusion.between "street photography" and "people" Therefore I would rename "people" to "portraits and studio photography" Best rgds
spylaw4 Posted August 30, 2012 Share #29 Posted August 30, 2012 I hope what I am seeing now is not the final shape! Oh, and should it not be X1 & X2? Or just X?
LUF Admin Posted August 30, 2012 Share #30 Posted August 30, 2012 Until I only changed the structure. The naming comes later today or tomorrow as this is a little bit more complicated... Andreas
farnz Posted August 30, 2012 Share #31 Posted August 30, 2012 Would you consider changing the name of the "Leica M Lenses" forum to just "Lenses", which would cover screw mount lenses, R lenses and S lenses? Otherwise, where would topics and discussion about, say, screw mount lenses or R lenses be found? Pete.
Peter H Posted August 30, 2012 Share #32 Posted August 30, 2012 Thanks for the hard work on our behalf, though I remain sceptical about the further fragmentation that's occurring in the name of clarity! Would it be possible/helpful to change the order of the sections on the home page? Starting with a long list of camera and equipment-specific sections certainly gives the impression that this isn't as much to do with photography and ideas so much as gear. Perhaps that 's an accurate impression, but one that I'd hoped this round of changes might nudge a little.
Guest Ming Rider Posted August 30, 2012 Share #33 Posted August 30, 2012 This is all very exciting. Rather like staff moving into a new office building or factory. The confusion that goes with it. Where's my office? Johns got a better work station. Line D isn't finished yet and will have to combine with E for the time being. Where's the vending machine? Chill and go with it. I'm sure it will be 'state of the art' when done, something to be proud of (fingers crossed).
250swb Posted August 30, 2012 Share #34 Posted August 30, 2012 Do we have to start all over again on all the new sub section forums because on a number of them I can't find a way to show last weeks posts on related subjects never mind last moths posts? LUF Admin Posted August 30, 2012 Share #35 Posted August 30, 2012 Do we have to start all over again on all the new sub section forums because on a number of them I can't find a way to show last weeks posts on related subjects never mind last moths posts? Where were the posts before? In the Film Forum? It's still there: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/film-forum/ Over the next time I'll move current threads to new sections if needed. But I'll leave a link ("Moved to...") for each old thread. Andreas
Peter H Posted August 30, 2012 Share #36 Posted August 30, 2012 This is all very exciting. Rather like staff moving into a new office building or factory. The confusion that goes with it. Where's my office? Johns got a better work station. Line D isn't fully finished yet and will have to combine with E for the time being. Where's the vending machine? Chill and go with it. I'm sure it will be 'state of the art' when done, something to be proud of (fingers crossed). Its not the temporary confusion I dislike, because that will soon pass, or the fact of change, which I agree is exciting. Its the increased fragmentation, ubiquitous in modern media, which tends to lead us towards what we're already familiar with. I sincerely believe it will have the effect of narrowing rather than broadening our viewpoint, which, whilst perhaps being convenient in some circumstances, is not generally a good thing. Adarsha Posted August 30, 2012 Share #37 Posted August 30, 2012 ... and so... ... confused, I logged out... ... then logged back in again... ... wondered where Barnack's Bar is? ... then... saw this thread... ... no words or thoughts yet... except... ...hmm... ... and my favorite phrase for dealing with things I'm unsure about, (also the stock phrase for endless kids' requests as they grew up)... We'll see.... :I
myshkine Posted August 30, 2012 Share #38 Posted August 30, 2012 First impression was that it is a bit more complex than before. And I wonder why the "film forum" is under "Leica products" and not under "general Leica discussions"?
MichaelRabern Posted August 30, 2012 Share #39 Posted August 30, 2012 Group: Everything it looking fantastic. Moderators, wow you guys are really appreciated. Please consider adding description to the forums and sub-forums. (Without, in my opinion it looks a bit bland, or less seasoned.) Thank you.
NZDavid Posted August 31, 2012 Share #40 Posted August 31, 2012 Looks good. All will be well. One possible tweak: Group main subheads together, click on each subhead to expand for neater front page. But this format will work fine; review after a week or two.
