Advertisement Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 Hi azzo, Take a look here Watch Tower. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted March 11, 2007 Share #2 Posted March 11, 2007 This is one I wish I'd taken. Excellent.
JE Posted March 12, 2007 Share #3 Posted March 12, 2007 I agree with the above, but I content myself by remembering that there is no body of water here in Bogota and exactly that is what's preventing me from taking such a photo. Really a beautiful shot. I can imagine that it was here that Byron almost fought a duel over his love. Jonathan
Guest stnami Posted March 12, 2007 Share #4 Posted March 12, 2007 .. all the ingredients there, maybe a touch digitally sharp, sorta happens a lot, I really think as I said to Steve on a image let the tones do the work. Contrasting within a shape is better than the edges , which is what sharpening digitally does in general. If you unsharpen mask give it away
zanydave Posted March 12, 2007 Share #5 Posted March 12, 2007 Great image azzo. I like the grainy feel to it. Dave
stuny Posted March 12, 2007 Share #6 Posted March 12, 2007 Ivan - The wide horizontal stretches greatly add to the feeling of vastness and of the relative usefulness of the watchtower in that location. The graininess contributes well to the composition.
azzo Posted March 12, 2007 Author Share #7 Posted March 12, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Andy, Jonathan, Imants, Dave and Stuart..Thankyou. This image was captured using an M6ttl and 50mm Elmar-M f2.8. Also, the film used was Fuji 1600 PR. Looks a bit too grainy here, as I still have to get used to post images properly but it prints very nicely. Azzo
elansprint72 Posted March 13, 2007 Share #8 Posted March 13, 2007 Looks a bit too grainy here, as I still have to get used to post images properly but it prints very nicely. Azzo You make a good point here Azzo, some shots need different treatment just to show them on the web. I like "simple" compositions like this one, just enough and nothing more, as someone once said. pemayeux Posted March 13, 2007 Share #10 Posted March 13, 2007 Wonderful image Azzo. This goes very well with the picture of the boat you posted some days back. I like the composition and how the lines of the land play against the shapes of the clouds. I too like the grainyness (sp?).
elansprint72 Posted March 13, 2007 Share #11 Posted March 13, 2007 Azzo, I'm not sure that I have the answer to the problem; reducing quality for web seems (to my inexpert eye) to have different requirements for both film and digital; neither of them are shown to their best on the web. I spent years making deliberately grainy prints, yet when I've tried to post them, they lose impact; as for digital, I've only just got my toe in the water! elansprint72 Posted March 14, 2007 Share #14 Posted March 14, 2007 All along the watchtower, princes kept the view While all the women came and went, barefoot servants, too. Outside in the distance a wildcat did growl, Two riders were approaching, the wind began to howl......

elansprint72 Posted March 15, 2007 Share #19 Posted March 15, 2007 Azzo, the song All along the Watchtower was written by Bob Dylan but Jimi Hendrix's version is more widely known.
