Given the history that exists for the price of Leica Cameras upon launch of a new model what do you think the rumoured M10 will cost retail.

After saving for a very long time I am predicting that I will purchase my first Digital Leica M . I am hopeful that the details regarding the rumoured M10 will be somewhat clearer at the critical time where I have to choose which model to buy. If I decide that the M10 is the best option then I may have to save harder and longer hence my interest in opinions regarding the predicted retail price.

Bo, no-one knows for sure. All is speculation. My guess is quite a bit more than the M9 which begs the question: Have you considered that option? You know that cost and you know whether you can afford it. But factor in the cost of lenses.

Welcome to the forum, Bo.

Is there any chance that the M10 may very well be a digital CL ... which falls into the sub US$8k price range as hinted by S Daniel in the THEME review?

CMOS, decent high ISO, live view ... a broad range of creative opportunites. Might be a huge hit!

The M8.2, a slightly-revised M8, came out at $500 more than the M8 was selling for at the time. The M9, with full-frame, no IR filters needed, manual lens input and a host of other significant improvements, came out at only $700 more than the M8.2 was selling for at the time (true, the M9 retreated from sapphire to plastic :D). The M9P however, which added back the sapphire but otherwise was a minor cosmetic revision, came out at $1000 more than a current M9. Then Leica gave us the MM, an M9P which can't do color, for another $1000 more.

So the only thing I can tell from all of that is that if Leica holds to the pattern, the M10 will cost more than its predecessor, but probably not hugely more.

Thanks for your take on this everyone. bocaburger your insight to the history of pricing was very interesting it puts me in the ball park of having a choice along with my preferred lens. The anticipation is great in the mean time I will have continue to build my knowledge and keep my eyes and ears peeled.

My DSLRs have recently been attached to my 50mm f1.2 and i am a totally manual photographer so I in training.

Thanks for the welcome and it's great to be joining your community

Best Bo

My bet is that there will be no M10 this year. If there is someting new it will be called something else. But what? The M is mirrorless, so will it be the SN? (spiegeln nicht)

I think you are right. If Leica don't quickly follow up the recent flurry of manufacturers with an EVIL camera they will be shooting themselves in the foot. Meanwhile they still have plenty of Limited Edition M9's to go at as the cash cow.

Defining a product by what it is not or what it does not have is utter nonsense. I hope Leica will be smarter and not call a new interchangeable lens system "mirrorless". Eventually, digital cameras were never called "filmless".

I was wondering too whether it will be even called the M10 and whether "MIO" is one of those names which doesn't work as a camera model in some languages - "My" in Italian, "Mine" in Spanish, abbreviation for Million in German/Dutch. Mind you, I never did understand why Canon had a camera called a "Rebel". I wonder if Pentax still have a trademark for "MX"?
