lrochfort Posted July 12, 2012 Share #1 Posted July 12, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'd like to purchase my first M, ideally an M3 and 50mm. However, I'm on a budget and really don't have more than £1000 to spend. Does this sound feasible to people? I don't care about looks, a tatty but mechanically sound body would be fine. Likewise for the lens, a Summicron would be nice, but I'd be interested in people's opinions on affordable alternatives. Many thanks, Laurence. Advertisement Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Hi lrochfort, Take a look here M3 and 50mm under £1000?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
rob139 Posted July 12, 2012 Share #2 Posted July 12, 2012 That is possible, I was following a near mint M3 on Ebay last week, it went for 560 euro. A nice collapsible Elmar (2.8) can certainly be found for less than 400 euros. Don't know about a summicron. Good luck!
earleygallery Posted July 12, 2012 Share #3 Posted July 12, 2012 Definitely! But buy from a dealer who guarantees the camera, and make sure you buy a good clean lens (avoid hazy/scratched examples). An Elmar 50 3.5 or 2.8, or older version Summicron will be within your budget.
payasam Posted July 17, 2012 Share #4 Posted July 17, 2012 If a non-Leica lens is acceptable, you can easily stay within your budget. I would, however, recommend that you make no compromises when selecting the M3.
