enboe Posted July 7, 2012 Share #1 Posted July 7, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Part curiosity, part useful data, and part lack of forum tools knowledge on my part, I would like to propose a poll where respondents vote for new Leica lenses they hope to purchase this year and next. A "Sticky" poll would allow the thread to endure long enough to collect useful data. This information would be useful for those seeking particular lenses as well as Leica itself to have an indication of the demand. Acknowledged, there is no way of keeping someone from abusing the voting process, we'd all be on our honor. Thoughts? P.S. My vote: I would like to purchase the new 50 AA Summicron at the earliest available date.
Advertisement Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 Hi enboe, Take a look here Proposal for a Sticky poll - 2012-2013 lens acquisition plans. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wda Posted July 7, 2012 Share #2 Posted July 7, 2012 Nothing planned at present, so of minimal interest to me I'm afraid!
darylgo Posted July 7, 2012 Share #3 Posted July 7, 2012 Enboe - this sounds like a fun idea........I own all the lenses (I think) I currently need, but always want more. A current Noctilux would be most desirable, and a 90 Apo also. Low light and lens characteristics draw me to these. OTOH I have some lenses that are hardly used or are in need of CLA, they should be sold but lessons learned from the past are never sell Leica lenses. Interested to hear which lenses and why from others.
Messsucherkamera Posted July 8, 2012 Share #4 Posted July 8, 2012 I might spring for a Voigtlander 35/1.2 Nokton V.2 - interesting lens. I'd like to acquire the Leica 21/3.4 & viewfinder - but at twice the price of the Nokton & lens hood, it's out of reach right now. And I'm not bitter about Leica prices. earleygallery Posted July 8, 2012 Share #5 Posted July 8, 2012 Sorry to throw spanners in the works but..... The forum members are only a % of Leica users - I don't know what % but I suspect it to be less than we may think. Of the number of members registered, only a small % actually bother to post. So I'm not sure what value such information would have for Leica, even if they bothered to read it and take it into account (unlikely, I'm sure they know best about their levels of production - and typically it's not enough lenses!). Also you would need to differentiate between people who buy new or s/h, and then it would need to be updated when someone has bought their lens, or if they intended to buy new but actually bought s/h or vice versa! Add to that the possibility that someone might intend to buy a Leica lens but chooses a Zeiss or Voigtlander instead.
janki Posted July 8, 2012 Share #6 Posted July 8, 2012 I think basically it's a good idea, that there are channels through which consumers can signal to an equipment manufacturer what improvements you want on existing products, or what kind of entirely new products you want. But, as everyone knows, Leica has only one system-camera in its portfolio, - the rangefinder M camera. This system has its natural limits in terms of lenses. The possibility to choose interesting varieties of lenses, had been far far greater if Leica had produced an FF DSLR camera.

andybarton Posted July 8, 2012 Share #8 Posted July 8, 2012 Polls have a maximum of 25 choices....
enboe Posted July 8, 2012 Author Share #9 Posted July 8, 2012 Andy, Thanks for the technical input. Luckily there are only 22 M lenses listed on the Leica home page. Your call if you think there would be sufficient interest. Let me know how to start the poll if approved. Eric
farnz Posted July 8, 2012 Share #10 Posted July 8, 2012 ... Luckily there are only 22 M lenses listed on the Leica home page. ... And how many when you include silver lenses? Pete.
bocaburger Posted July 8, 2012 Share #11 Posted July 8, 2012 If by "acquisition" you mean finding them on my doorstep then I'd be happy to participate in the poll. However if you mean buy with my own money, then count me out. There isn't a lens in Leica's stable that I could bring myself to pay today's asking prices, not even used. Fortunately bought all the lenses I want or need back a few years when they were a fraction of the current ask.
farnz Posted July 9, 2012 Share #12 Posted July 9, 2012 Sounds like we might need a poll about whether to have a poll. Pete.
Messsucherkamera Posted July 9, 2012 Share #13 Posted July 9, 2012 Sounds like we might need a poll about whether to have a poll. Pete. Shouldn't we first have a 300 year feasibility study regarding the poll about whether to have a poll?
jaapv Posted July 9, 2012 Share #14 Posted July 9, 2012 Can't have a feasibility study without appointing a committee to study the need to initiate the process of appointing the agency to do the study.
janki Posted July 9, 2012 Share #15 Posted July 9, 2012 What about the S range?? It's possible I’ve misunderstood completely. But I've got a sort of impression that the S range is so special, not at least because of its high price level, that it mostly is considered as a curiosity and does not really count when the general public discusses cameras and lenses. A typical question in a poll about a new lens for the S range could be: If it entered the market, would you consider buying a: Leica Vario-Elmar – S 100 – 250 mm f / 2.8 APO ? Yes: No: Don’t know yet:
