I really like a small shoulder bag (man bag if you like :D)

I have a small Artisan and Artist "Evans Walker" which is great for camera with lens, filter, cloth battery, cards, wallet phone keys etc. Much happier than a heavy pendulum and bulging pockets.

Seems perfectly okay these days to have a shoulder/man bag and frankly much easier :)

I would consider one but only if it matches my 6" stiletto heeled pink pumps - for bicycle riding.

Lol, Pico!

Ah well, my choice wasn't influenced by much more than personal likes and what I consider being a stable, firm, durable transport tool. An awesome scent is a bonus. :)

I don't want anything that screams "expensive camera bag, here, here!"

Fashion doesn't interest me anyhow, and I never choose purses to fit shoes.

This bag (I also have a few others, i.e. pacsafe and Loewepro) fits both my personal style and I trust it more than any canvas. If noone decides to spear it, it may last longer than I.

At least I'm not the only one:

What a profound difference there is between the US and our friends over the Atlantic. Do you all really carry man-purses (called a 'Murse' here) for cameras? Not that it is a bad thing. I get kidded by my neighbors for carrying a canvas messenger bag! For one Leica, the M9 which is still precious to me, I use a soft, battered Benser ever-ready case. The other eight Leicas suffer the usual dings and abuse. The M9 will too, eventually.

Do you purchase a murse to match shoes? Belt? Cap? :)

Thats a bit rich considering what some of the USA contributors consider a tasteful camera bag! To me they look like handbags, or the alternative is wannabee saddle bags. Lets face it, if some people buy a Leica they feel the need to accessorize wherever in the world they come from. It may be awful taste, and they probably wouldn't put a Canon 5d in it, or indeed any camera they might need to use for work, they are for show, they are to make a statement, they are well beyond merely needing a bag to carry a camera in the most efficient way. As such every nation has to share the blame for such awful taste, its an international world.

My most-used accessory is Gaffer's Tape - the real stuff. Pink. I even patch my levis with it. They last through the laundry. I never see any highfalutin camera bags around here. Army surplus bags suffice, especially those from Germany. Bleached and dyed pink, of course.

F A C E T I O U S - look it up.

Please add the Think Tank Hubba Hubba Hiney to your list. (Yes, the name is really dumb - please spare us all from marketing departments.)

Search - Camera Bags, Backpacks, Belts, Beltpacks, more

I use one with an M7, 35mm Summicron, 50 mm Summicron, and Elmarit M 90. They all fit perfectly. I use the bag with the "Thin Skin Belt." I do a lot of hiking/backpacking and it's the best bag I've ever used. Fortunately, so far I haven't had to use the rain cover - it pulls out easily from underneath and will completely cover the bag.

Previously, I used a Lowepro Trail Runner, which also isn't on your list.

Nice looking bag ..... for a woman. ... :)

Funny! No one around me here (Germany) would *ever* consider this model a female one! :)

It's unisex in its best character, imo. Small and handy, yes. But a 'man bag', no.

What leads me to the point to wonder, if you consider transport tools for cameras a gender specific thing?

In the Midwest, one has to be careful what type of bag is used to carry camera equipment. My teenagers have prohibited me from ever using a fanny pack and a guy carrying around a leather bag remotely similar to a purse or murse also raises eyebrows. I often use a Crumpler Haven insert for my D700 that can be hidden in other bags depending on the situation.

The TT Retrospective 5 is currently at the top of my shopping list, but I plan to hold out to see if Think Tank introduces a Retrospective 3 (something smaller) that will still hold an M10 and 3 lenses.

My fav these days:

Sadlleback medium travel bag.

saddlebackleather.com

Had to travel from Texas to Germany and is in best shape with awesome odeur.

I am curious why you did not choose the small or medium gadget bag instead of the medium travel bag. The dimensions seem better suited to an M9 kit. Actually the medium Crumpler Haven insert looks like it would be a great fit and still leave room for extras.

No, not really. The kids just think a fanny pack looks weird.

Uh, where on the body were you wearing it? :D

Reminds me of the time a fellow asked how he could look more attractive at a dance, and someone told him to put a potato in his underwear. He came back to report that everyone avoided him like the plague.

A little conversation elicited the advice, "Silly! Put it in the FRONT of your trousers!"

Okay. Getting goofy. Time for beddie bye.

  • 4 weeks later...

I ended up buying a Saddleback Gadget Bag to hold my future M System. Should be able to hold an M9 (or M10), 3 lenses (21mm, 35mm, 50mm), 7" tablet, Sony RX100 plus extra memory cards and batteries.

Here are two photos of the bag in Tobacco Brown before and after I added Chamberlains Water Protectant. The color ended up in-between after a week. It also works great with a medium Crumpler Haven
