All three lenses in the picture have UVa filters. What side these present to the viewer depends on the screw thread. Simply random.

All the filters as far as I know were made in Germany – and also all these lenses.

Jip was referring to the lettering on the focusing rings.

By coincidence, I also bought one of these just a few days ago. According to Erwin Puts, the serial number on mine indicates it was made in 1966. It has the meter-and-feet scale and looks exactly like the one to the right in jc_braconi's picture above. It does include the GERMANY writing (in all-capital letters) but that's located on the fixed part of the barrel, in opposition to the depth-of-field scale.

At full aperture, the performance is not quite up to modern Leica M lenses but still I'm surprised how good it is. Some glaring veil which reduces contrast but still pretty sharp across the better part of the field. Vignetting is surprisingly low, too. I expected it to be worse at f/2.8.

Some years ago I had this 2 Elmar changed the front element by Leica + CLA

note the use of matte black paint in the front assembly, certainly helping to reduce the flare.

Being as brazen as that I'm surprised she didn't also sue the car manufacturer for not providing somewhere to safely place her coffee while she added her cream and sugar.

It reminds me of a story of an American gentleman who acquired some extremely expensive cigars and ensured them to protect his investment. But one evening he and a few friends got drunk on his expensive Cognac and decided to see what the cigars were like and before long they'd smoked them all. In the morning the enormity of what he'd done dawned on him so he placed an insurance claim because the cigars were insured against fire damage. The insurance company denied the claim but he took them to court and won.

The insurance company was understandably angry at being forced to pay out and contacted the local police and arranged for the man to be charged with wilful destruction of property. Eventually the charge was dropped when he agreed not to pursue the insurance payout but separately the police charged him with wasting police time and he was fined and acquired a criminal record.

A 1913-1983 Summicron 35, CODED, is rare.... :)... well done: I don't pile up the faggots, whatever it means...

In British English, a faggot is either a bundle of wood prepared for burning, or a spicy meatball. The imagery the poster wished to portray was that of a heretic being burned at the stake ( which happened occasionally in Britain).

I believe the subset of English used in America carries an alternate meaning, but otherwise I couldn't possibly comment.

doesn't it also mean a cigarette -- in England.

No, that's a fag. If you asked someone in the UK for a faggot when expecting to receive a cigarette you might be surprised at the reaction.:)

So after all these years I thought it only meant homosexuals, or at least a negative word for homosexuals... Now I see it means a lot of other things as well, although pretty negative as well! ;(
