In Thorsten's fantastic article

leica.overgaard.dk - Thorsten Overgaard's Leica Pages - Leica M9 Digital Rangefinder Camera - Page 17: "Light metering with the Leica M9 and Leica M9-P and Leica M Monochrom"

at one point he says

"The reason I use this mode is that on the Leica M9 I use either ISO 160 (outdoor) or ISO 800 (indoor) (the Leica M Monochrom and the Leica M10 can go higher, so the indoor/evening ISO can be higher there; and the M Momochrom has a base ISO (natural sensor ISO) of 320 ISO why that would be your daylight/outdoor ISO)."

Or just stating the obvious... even the latest 4/3rds sized sensors are way more sensitive than the CCD sensor of the M9, so it would require an extraordinary effort not to have at least 1-2 more stops on the M10, though I am rather hoping on 3...

I was thinking that the other day. Leica's NDA must be extremely tough this year.

Mind you, the X1 was a surprise at 09/09/09 if my memory serves me correct.

It's going to be a very interesting session on Monday. :)

D-lux 6 and V-lux info have made it through already....posted a link in the digital forum------yet still nothing about the Ms

Rick thanks, scroll down and you see this

Is there any chance that in future M cameras will have focus confirmation?

'This is directly linked to the next generation of sensors. Because if you have a live view sensor, you can not only generate a live view image, but you can also tell a sensor something about the focus. This live view sensor is the key to many improvements and innovations in future M cameras. So, yes, there will be focus confirmation on the next generation.'

I understood that Leica had some of the patents here in any case, not a surprise looking forward to seeing the M10, perhaps with LED additions to the classic display, evolution of the titanium lines etc ?

It won't look like a Xmas tree or the LEDs can be disabled hopefully. Focus peaking in the EVF would be enough for me. YMMV.

If through EVF and live view you could use R-lenses on a would-be M10, wouldn't this also mean you can use other lenses; i.e. Nikkors with adapters? That'd be pretty cool.

Oh... and I wonder if you should start bagging cheap second hand R-lenses now while the getting is good. Sure there would be a price jolt if an M10 accepting R-lenses would hit the streets.

Why use nikkor lenses if u have leica's?

About the R lenses, ur a little late with that. Prices went up already when people started using them on their 5D's.

@ jaap. I meant 'use' more in reference to being able to focus with them and not resorting to zone focusing.

@ robert. Prices will go up even more then won't they? I think each lens renders differently beyond what mtf charts and resolution will tell you and being able to experiment with other lenses on any camera is quite fun and sometimes rewarding. I used to use a 50mm 1.2 AIS which I absolutely loved on my D700. They're really cheap when compared to m-mount lenses (not just Leica). Now if you could use other non-M lenses other than Leica on the Leica M - why wouldn't you try?

This is all moot for me and I'm just a happy bystander .. wouldn't be able to justify an M10 price anyway. I'm just waiting for the table scraps.

Sorry for the link to an old interview. Dale Photo posted the interview and I was misled to believe that it was a new interview because, it was just posted yesterday on their site and I only looked to see when it was posted on their site. Anyway, it is interesting to see again but, it is two years old.

Also, where are all these "cheap" R lenses. The great ones are still expensive and some rarely show up for sale.

Don't apologise - I thought it was very interesting, particularly as the interview took place after the last Photokina and it provides an interesting insight into what Leica was thinking 2 years ago. We'll know in a couple of days just how accurate his comments were.

It makes more interesting reading than predictions of the M10 failing ...

Cheers

John
