It is most likely a Pincushion Protea from Hawaii.

Yes but remember the Protea is a South African flower..so its become the 'fashion" for Hawaii to lay claim.....

 

Love the colour!!

Hi Caryl;

 

congratulation! An absolutely nice shot of an originally very rare plant. The pincushion flowers (here: Leucospermum cordifolium) originated from South Africa and are part of the so called "Fynbos" vegetation which, included some very specialized and almost rare endemic plants.

 

There is only a small area to Cape Province these plants are native. Because of their beauty and the stunny flower´s architecture Leucospermum became widespread over the world and are now in plant nurseries and gardenshops to acquire.
