earleygallery Posted May 10, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted May 10, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Some people are bound to be disappointed by whatever news we hear later today. Â The camera of your dreams has not been announced, or the camera of your dreams has been announced but you can't see it for 6 months and even then you won't be able to afford it. Â There's a new version of your favourite lens, likewise as above. Â Take some deep breaths, relax, and repeat slowly ten times "my Leica was fine yesterday and it will still be fine tomorrow". Â A newer better something doesn't make what you have redundant, your gear will still work and let you create images. Don't blame Leica because you now have something that's 'old technology' and don't blame them because you can't afford it. Â Learn to be happy with what you have, for now...... Omaroo Posted May 10, 2012 Share #4 Â Posted May 10, 2012 All i need to remind myself of is that I chose my M8 over an M9, so I'm good with whatever is released.
gyoung Posted May 10, 2012 Share #5  Posted May 10, 2012 Every time I spend time drooling over some new ephemeral electronic 'toy' I get out my M3 & M6 and relax, knowing that they will stll produce images every bit as good as the new stuff for me, and will be doing it long after I and the electronics are gone  Gerry

Guest Posted May 10, 2012 Share #7  Posted May 10, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) All i need to remind myself of is that I chose my M8 over an M9, so I'm good with whatever is released.  That's what I did today: Man walks into a bar...err, camera store, sees a brand new chrome M9-P, opens his old-fashioned briefcase, takes out a chrome M8 body and trades it in. Of cause it still had the foil on the base plate. He had an umbrella, though it's not raining (for a change) and he looked like someone working in a bank. Not one M lens in the whole store, but the deal only took a few minutes.  Meanwhile I was playing with the new fuji (sorry, it sucks - feel sorry - for those having one and coming to this forum, sony's nicer imo) and I continued shooting with it (in a different direction) alsoafter it was clear that the fuji sucks.  Man's out, Totally untested M8 is mine within a very short time. Now I have a chrome M8 and a black M8u and am as happy as I could be.  Whoever said I didn't need the M9 was right, I admit I love M8. This is a day to remember.  Cheers, Simon  PS foil's off

leicar7 Posted May 10, 2012 Share #9 Â Posted May 10, 2012 Time to get another Heckler & Koch handgun. More affordable than Leicas. Especially since there is still nothing for the R hangerson among us. Fotokina? This business of awaiting the next announcement however many months down the line got old several years ago. It is unacceptable.

NZDavid Posted May 11, 2012 Share #12 Â Posted May 11, 2012 Get rid of all your modern appliances but keep your old Leicas. Everything was fine back in the 50s, 60s, 70s...
skinner Posted May 11, 2012 Share #13 Â Posted May 11, 2012 Before I switched to Leica I had an unfaithful wandering eye. I would buy a camera and within a few weeks look to see if I could trade it in and get a 'better' model. Since switching to the M9 a couple of years ago I can honestly say I haven't as much as looked at another camera since. This has been such a calming feeling and I've learnt much more about taking pictures in this time rather than gear. I now feel like the wandering eye might return, especially after Photokina but my head is telling me to forget about it and don't get sucked into the latest and biggest distraction game anymore. Continue to learn about taking pictures instead because any change in body will make very little difference to my little old hobby and where i need to improve. Bodies will continue to evolve so for now I am very grateful for what I have and the content that it brings. Â Lenses are not included within this though. I would prostitute myself without hesitation if I thought it would get me closer to a new dream lens. Alas, looking at my belly, I don't think I could buy any Leica lens for 99p. Â Best wishes Steve
Rolo Posted May 11, 2012 Share #14 Â Posted May 11, 2012 I had cheque book poised ready to order an S3, but no announcement on that it seems. Â Now I need advice on how to fight off competition for the funds.
andyedward Posted May 11, 2012 Share #15 Â Posted May 11, 2012 For those hit hard by yesterdays announcements, I suggest a visit to a counsellor or financial advisor. Perhaps leica should provide such services as a courtesy or an upgrade
