Dan95 Posted April 20, 2012 Share #1 Posted April 20, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) When I was dusting my MP, found this.. Some black stuff. Its not on my M7 and M6. Is it a light seal of some sort ? Or might it be insect eggs ? As I found an insect when I was cleaning it. Posted this in RFF. And another guy said the "seal" is also on his 3XXXXX MP. Then, another chap said its not on his!

earleygallery Posted April 20, 2012 Share #9 Posted April 20, 2012 It's difficult to see exactly what the problem is from your photo but then I don't have an MP. I'm sure some other MP users will respond in time.
leicanut2 Posted April 20, 2012 Share #10 Posted April 20, 2012 It's an infestation of small spider like insects known to live off the lubricant applied only to Leica M cameras. Technicians at Solms are aware of this and several years ago sent samples to the German Institute of Entomology. Professor Max Keissel examined the insects and declared it to be a new as yet undiscovered species and named it Leicanous Vulgaris. Unfortunately once your camera is infested in this way the only remedy is to double bag it and take it to the nearest incinerator and burn it under controlled conditions. Alternatively just put it on Ebay and say nothing !! You got to be pulling our slinky, Leicanous Vulgaris... Jan
wattsy Posted April 20, 2012 Share #11 Posted April 20, 2012 If you are worried about some kind of infestation, put the camera in a plastic bag and store it in the freezer for a day or so. The cold will kill off any insects in there.
pico Posted April 20, 2012 Share #12 Posted April 20, 2012 Well, the secret is out. Leica uses intelligent insects to assemble the fine parts. Specifically, the Portuguese cockroach, AKA; Kafka Bug in order to comply with German labor laws.
Dan95 Posted April 20, 2012 Author Share #13 Posted April 20, 2012 Another guy in RFF has the same seal, at the same spot. While it's absent on another dude's early MP. and, not there on my M7 and M2.
Michael Geschlecht Posted April 21, 2012 Share #14 Posted April 21, 2012 Hello Dan, Welcome to the Forum. Sometimes it is just Silly Season on this Forum whatever you say or do. I can't tell anything from the photo. Is it possible to take another photo so that whatever it is is somewhat larger? Someone not infected w/ the Sillies might recognize it. Best Regards, Michael

M9reno Posted April 21, 2012 Share #18 Posted April 21, 2012 I'm not saying that's what it is in the OP's picture, but it "looks" like a sloppy bit of soldering. It's hard in any case to imagine from its appearance that it is linked to anything organic, like an insect colony!
earleygallery Posted April 21, 2012 Share #19 Posted April 21, 2012 OTOH it could be another universe. Imagine if we were contained within a spec of matter on some trivial item which an alien in another world was musing over right now! What would happen if the alien just tried to budge us with a cocktail stick? And before you say it, no, we don't know if they drink cocktails.
