DKbRS Posted March 24, 2012 Share #1 Posted March 24, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I wanted to follow up my thread about small camera bags with a question about what everyone means when they say they carry the camera everywhere. I'm trying to do this too, but what does everyone mean by everywhere? To the supermarket? To friends for dinner? To work in the office? ... Jeff S Posted March 24, 2012 Share #2 Posted March 24, 2012 For the M, not recommended in shower until better weather sealed. Jeff
DKbRS Posted March 24, 2012 Author Share #3 Posted March 24, 2012 For the M, not recommended in shower until better weather sealed. Jeff I suspect that with this attitude, you're losing out on some precious shots. Try an Optech Rain Cover.
philipus Posted March 24, 2012 Share #4 Posted March 24, 2012 Lol. Though I haven't brought either my M6 or my II with me into the shower, I have several times brought the II (and my previous camera, an M3) when going for a jog, including in the middle of winter which made my fingers veeery cold since I forgot my gloves... I usually bring either the M6 or the II to parties or dinners. I think I've brought one of them with me when going food shopping. I almost always bring one of the cameras to work and take pictures at lunch. I've brought both with me to the stable, though I haven't used either while actually riding. giordano Posted March 24, 2012 Share #5 Posted March 24, 2012 I've brought both with me to the stable, though I haven't used either while actually riding. You haven't lived until you've loaded film in a Leica II on horseback!
earleygallery Posted March 24, 2012 Share #6 Posted March 24, 2012 In your pocket everytime you leave the house. That's why an M isn't always the best option.

Messsucherkamera Posted March 25, 2012 Share #8 Posted March 25, 2012 (edited) I carry my M almost everywhere - to the: Auto dealership while getting the car worked on doctor's office drug store bookstore library veterinary's office barber shop hardware store breakfast/lunch/dinner gallery receptions Target store shopping mall (on my semiannual trips there) grocery store hospital when visiting a patient... I could go on, but you get the idea. Do I always make photographs in all those places? No. But I do go make some photographs before or after I go to those places - which is why I take it with me in the first place. I learned my lesson about two years ago. I went to get a haircut. On the way there, I was passed by several fire trucks. When I got there, the plaza where my barber's shop was located was on fire. Thankfully his shop was spared, but I missed a great opportunity to get make photos of the firefighters in action. That's not going to happen again! asmith Posted March 25, 2012 Share #10 Posted March 25, 2012 I expect I am unusual but I never carry a camera, a mobile 'phone or a satnav unless I am intending to use it. Alwyn
philipus Posted March 25, 2012 Share #11 Posted March 25, 2012 You haven't lived until you've loaded film in a Leica II on horseback! well that might be something to try. Reminds me, though, that while there are few places i wouldn't bring a camera to (except my wedding ) I don't bring it everytime i go somewhere. MarkP Posted March 25, 2012 Share #12 Posted March 25, 2012 You haven't lived until you've loaded film in a Leica II on horseback! Is this the Leica equivalent of the mile-high club?
Paul J Posted March 25, 2012 Share #13 Posted March 25, 2012 (edited) If I don't have a camera with me it means I miss shots and I don't like that. Simple as that. I would rather I have my camera with me at all times. I usually leave home with my camera around my neck, prefocussed to 3m and set on f4 with my finger ready on the shutter button. I have various prefocus distances for various scenarios. Even around the house I will most likely have my camera in my hand, or at least by my side. I have, at times, a bordering on unhealthy obsession with taking pictures! The more you use it the more you train your eye to see and the better your pictures get. And the magic is there 24hours a day for you to immerse yourself into and capture. My friends always laugh at me and tell me I'm OCD. I'm not 100% sure but it wouldn't surprise me! elgenper Posted March 25, 2012 Share #14 Posted March 25, 2012 (edited) For the M, not recommended in shower until better weather sealed. Jeff While not really in the shower, I recall a Leica sponsored event in 1980 or so, when the Swedish Leica rep brought an M4 with a Noctilux into the sauna (he put it there before turning it on, so it was slowly heated to around 90 deg C; he had to use mitts when shooting). He did get pictures; I was the center of one, with a beautiful girl on either side (mixed saunas were not uncommon at the time). I wish I had a copy now... Never heard how that camera and lens performed after cooling down... As for my own cameras, saunas are strictly out of bounds. Paul J Posted March 25, 2012 Share #15 Posted March 25, 2012 All I just heard was Mixed Sauna and beautiful girl either side. Don't ever use that combination of words and expect people to be able to properly understand what you've said!

Jeff S Posted March 26, 2012 Share #19 Posted March 26, 2012 ...with a beautiful girl on either side (mixed saunas were not uncommon at the time)... Well, in that case I'd only be concerned about other types of protection. Jeff
barrybed Posted March 28, 2012 Share #20 Posted March 28, 2012 I take my camera everywhere. But sometimes I don't. But there is an axim I have learned. When one does NOT have a camera, That's when the great photos appear!! I will not bore you with examples..Robbie http://robbiebedell.photoshelter.com
