I know it's a pretty mild derogatory term these days, but it's not the kind of atmosphere that is encouraged. Thanks. Hence the benefit of not having to deal with such posts. Occasionally after a bike ride I stop by a pub in our industrial district about a mile from my home. The customers are largely factory workers and truck drivers. Profanity is rare, and subtle when it does occur. It is something about the local culture where profanity is viewed as self-disrespect. I will add one more - have any of you experienced a profound Minnesota accent? We have it to the hilt here. Perhaps its because I'm getting older and more mellow, but everywhere I go I'm finding people very friendly and approachable, more so now than used to be the case. Increased communication, more available education and cheaper travel have made people far more aware of the perspectives of others, and has increased tolerance generally, particularly in younger generations. It is saying "Member X will never, ever write anything that I will ever want to read." but how could I know what Member X will write in the future or how their attitude may change? It's a form of censorship, something with which I disagree at the most fundamental level. To avoid a misunderstanding, I have no problem with others using the ignore list if it works for them. I find it easy enough to skim-read posts from certain members and pass over the objectionable or uninteresting bits, which could be called "actively filtering'. Pete. It is exactly for that reason, I very recently didn't put one ''particular'' male member on my Ignore List but that doesn't mean, I consider him a friend. Even if you put someone on your ignore list you can still read everything he or she writes; it’s just that their contributions don’t jump into your face by default. As it is w/ a newspaper or TV. I see it as a real disadvantage not to readily have the ability to know what the person you might disagree w/ is thinking & saying. For all the grumbling here I, on the other hand, come to this Forum because it is an Island of Sanity & Reason in the World I live in which is otherwise somewhat imperfect. Quite literally. I could not agree less, I've just started using the ignore list and I am much happier here. Questions to whoever may know: can you see who has ignored you? and can I ignore a moderator?
