analoguser Posted February 29, 2012 Share #1 Posted February 29, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) This is a small thing but ... recently I purchased a used 35 mm Summicron ASPH lens. And the lens is fine save for one small detail. The lens shade does not sit square with the the camera body. That is to say it is tilted ever so slightly when mounted on the lens. I know that this will not affect the lens performance in any way but it is peevishly irksome in the smallest way and I wish it were other wise. Can this be rectified? (no pun intended, no ... wait a minute ... PUN INTENDED!) Does any body have any thoughts on this. I have a 28 mm ASPH and the shade sits square with the camera body and is much more aesthetically pleasing. Thanks
Advertisement Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Hi analoguser, Take a look here 35 mm ASPH Shade. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
cbretteville Posted February 29, 2012 Share #2 Posted February 29, 2012 Mine has two small tabs that fits in under the aperture ring which forces it to align properly. Does yours have these tabs and do they fit in their notches? Carl
Paul J Posted February 29, 2012 Share #3 Posted February 29, 2012 Mine sits perfectly. Personally I'd send it back.
RockyIII Posted March 1, 2012 Share #4 Posted March 1, 2012 This is probably a stupid question, but have you tried removing it and putting it back on to see if it will snap into place? Rocky
analoguser Posted March 1, 2012 Author Share #5 Posted March 1, 2012 Thank you for your comments. Yes the shade fits into the indents for the tabs and yes I have removed it and replaced the shade a few times. Still the problem persists. I was hoping that a small adjustment to the lens might be possible to allow the shade to sit properly.
RockyIII Posted March 1, 2012 Share #6 Posted March 1, 2012 Have you figured out if the problem is with the hood or the lens? Do you happen to have a 28mm Elmarit? It uses the same hood, so you could try that one to see how it fits. Rocky
adan Posted March 1, 2012 Share #7 Posted March 1, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) It happens. The front part of the lens (aperture ring, ring with detents for the shade tabs) is where the problem lies. Needs reassembly to get the detents exactly at the top and bottom. Send to Leica for adjustment, or return to seller, as desired.
algrove Posted March 1, 2012 Share #8 Posted March 1, 2012 For some reason I bought a used 35 also and the top detent was just left of center and the shade was listing as a result. It is at Leica for adjustment. Do not have their quote as yet. Will post in a few weeks when I get their quote.
lct Posted March 1, 2012 Share #9 Posted March 1, 2012 I did not check how my 35/2 asph is built actually but the lens barrel is simply threaded into the focus mount of many Leica lenses like the 35/2 v4 (pic). The barrel may develop some tilt due to photogs holding the lens by the hood to mount and unmount it. FWIW.
wda Posted March 1, 2012 Share #10 Posted March 1, 2012 ...I have a 28 mm ASPH and the shade sits square with the camera body and is much more aesthetically pleasing. Thanks This might seem basic, but the lens hoods are interchangeable between the two cited lenses. Have you tried swapping them over? That will soon show the discrepancy. WilhelmR Posted March 1, 2012 Share #11 Posted March 1, 2012 I had the same problem with my lens. It was fixed when I sent it in for 6 bit coding.
analoguser Posted March 1, 2012 Author Share #12 Posted March 1, 2012 Thank you gentlemen for your comments. As to switching the shades with my 28 ASPH ... I have tried that and the problem persists. I may send the 35 back to the seller or may be to Leitz. I don't know yet. It is encouraging to know that regardless, the problem can be fixed.
