robert_parker Posted April 25, 2012 Share #66 Posted April 25, 2012 Congratulations Gibbo !! This is a very well chosen location with lots of photograpic opportunities. At risk of hi-jacking Gibbo's thread, it might be worth adding to the earlier information that directions to The Mud Dock can be found here Mud Dock : Caf and that there is plenty of overspill parking on Wapping Road (wonder where they got that name..) which is nearby. If you're coming from out of town and don't know the way, it's likely that approaching Bristol via the M32 (which is Bristol's link motorway and is Junction 19 on the M4) is one of the simplest ways in, even if you are coming from the north. At the end of the M32 follow signs towards the SS Great Britain then the Arlnofini if you don't have satnav. If coming by train and arriving at Temple Meads station, if you cross the main road in front of the station (and live...) then go to the right, follow the road round to the left by the burned out petrol station (yes, really..) and follow this road, which is called Redcliffe Way, straight ahead, passing the hotel on your left. When you reach the small roundabout by the church (St Mary Redcliffe) go straight across, leaving the small garden to your left. Go down the road which is ahead of you and to the left hand side of the pub and you're there. A brisk walk would take about 10 - 15 minutes. I'm hoping to be there, so if anyone wants my mobile number who hasn't already got it, please PM me.

Useful information Robert ! it should prove most helpful You commented on Wapping Road and where it got its name from. Well I checked it out in a book by Veronica Smith called Street Names of Bristol however unfortunately her research turned up nothing exotic except to say presumably it may have been named after the parish of Wapping in London which was also a dockland area . Veronica was a friend of mine and a well known Bristol historian but unfortunately she passed away several years ago. Best wishes and looking forward to Saturday Mike

Michael-IIIf Posted April 27, 2012 Share #69 Posted April 27, 2012 Hi All, I have a slight problem. I'm getting a new car which I was expecting to collect on Friday but am now told that it might not be ready until Saturday. Hoping I can still get there..... I have the opposite side of this problem: I have someone coming to see my car on Sunday and I'd forgotten how much work is involved in selling cars. Tomorrow will be spit and polish day for me. Now I remember why I part-ex'ed my last two.
earleygallery Posted April 27, 2012 Share #70 Posted April 27, 2012 Sorry guys I'm going to have to duck out, and I was hoping to give the 'new' motor a run down to Bristol tomorrow. Have a great day, hopefully the weather will be kind! Michael, I'm also going to have to do the spit and polish job on my old car - the garage only offered me £500 px for it! Definately better to sell privately.

Definately better to sell privately. I'm trying to because the last time I did a part-ex I remember feeling equally ripped-off, but I'd forgotten how much work selling a car is Good luck with your new one - what did you get? Thanks Michael, it's a BMW 3 saloon (nearly new, not actually 'mine' - the company are paying for this one). What about you?
gravastar Posted April 27, 2012 Share #73 Posted April 27, 2012 Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to make this one either. Arthritis in my knees is playing up after exercising earlier. I should have given it a rest for the trip but it's not been good for a while. I'd only hold people up. Best, Bob.
