jaapv Posted January 17, 2012 Share #2 Posted January 17, 2012 Now that sounds nice The OM 2 was my first real camera....
bill Posted January 17, 2012 Share #3 Posted January 17, 2012 I understand that they are doing a version that will only be sold in Essex - the OM-G... Regards, Bill
250swb Posted January 17, 2012 Share #4 Posted January 17, 2012 Very funny Bill. I like the sound of the Olympus, more than the NEX 7 and Fuji X Pro1. Finally a camera that can be used instead of staying at home discussing bokeh on the internet while its raining outside. I want one. Steve
jaapv Posted January 17, 2012 Share #5 Posted January 17, 2012 I understand that they are doing a version that will only be sold in Essex - the OM-G... Regards, Bill Photo Rumors : The back cover of next week's Amateur Photographer magazine reportedly has a full page teaser ad by Olympus about their upcoming camera. The campaign slogan is "Oh My Goodness" indicating than their product announcement may be related to the old Olympus OM system. The text says something like "the latest Olympus classic in a long line of design masterpieces".
kdriceman Posted January 17, 2012 Share #6 Posted January 17, 2012 The weather sealed body would be significant for me. Also, the rumored $1,000 price tag is below the XPro1 and Nex7. I assume the sensor is APS-C sized?
luigi bertolotti Posted January 17, 2012 Share #7 Posted January 17, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) The weather sealed body would be significant for me. Also, the rumored $1,000 price tag is below the XPro1 and Nex7. I assume the sensor is APS-C sized? 121mm... 425g.... not a 24x36 by sure and can't be another m43... APS-C seems logical at all, intriguing if would be APS-H. Another exciting announcement to wait for... never had an Oly, liked a lot the OM1/2, before my first Leica i thought that should I had to decide for SLR, Olympus would have been my choice. jaapv Posted January 17, 2012 Share #8 Posted January 17, 2012 The same idea here, Luigi. Leica will probably have this one to contend with for its coming Evil offering if the viewfinder is halfway decent. Of course, once again we are in a wait and see situation. The proof of the pudding etc... As I said before this is going to be an action-packed year.:)
stevelap Posted January 18, 2012 Share #9 Posted January 18, 2012 Thankfully Leica have hinted that their proposed CSC will use a sensor 'at least as large as APS', whereas the new Olympus seems like it's going to be yet another 4/3rds model. My first SLR was an OM-1 and whilst I'd love to see a larger sensor digital OM I don't think this is it. The OM-D sounds like it's going to be Oly's take on the Panasonic G/GH form factor, i.e. an EVIL with an inbuilt EVF housed in a faux pentaprism design, most likely incorporating the latest 16mpx 4/3rds sensor as found in the G3 and GX1. Archiver Posted January 18, 2012 Share #10 Posted January 18, 2012 Depending on performance, this camera might entice me over to Olympus. I have a real soft spot for the small film SLR's of that time, like the OM and the Pentax ME. But then it's a slippery slope with lenses and before I know it, I've bought into another system. jaapv Posted January 18, 2012 Share #11 Posted January 18, 2012 If Olympus runs true to form, one might be able to use classical OM Zuiko lenses on it. That would be no hardship.
NZDavid Posted January 18, 2012 Share #12 Posted January 18, 2012 Photo Rumors says "sadly we can't share pictures" and invites readers to zap the code with their smartphone (don't have one). So this site is really just an ad. Will have to wait to see more. Seems there's a huge range of new EVIL cameras coming. I have a feeling we'll see an interesting one from Leica this year, too, but possibly not before Photokina. We'll also see more rumors!

I think I'll need all the pennies I can muster for the Leica.
jaques Posted January 18, 2012 Share #14 Posted January 18, 2012 If Olympus runs true to form, one might be able to use classical OM Zuiko lenses on it. That would be no hardship. now this would be great- some of those classic Zuiko lenses are super. I like the old SLR's- just not the modern huge ones. Towards the end of the classic manual focus era designs became very small- with great feature sets- but but still all manual with metal bodies. I hope we see some FF DSLR's like that one day soon. I am disappointed the rumored oly-OM-D is not a DSLR... My pick for copycatting would be the Minolta XD-11. The body is smaller than the M9 Body. Lenses were not that much bigger either. I love the size- and the shutter/aperture priority modes. And it has a great feature set. See pictured alongside m9 with respective 1.4 50's. am I correct in thinking such a camera could not use M lenses as well as legacy SLR lenses (R for instance)? Welcome, dear visitor! jaapv Posted January 18, 2012 Share #15 Posted January 18, 2012 OM register distance is 46 mm. On an APS sensor a matter of adapters.

Personally I would like to see not another m43... it would smell of restyling the Pen... (even if with a new sensor... they speak of 16MP...) Even if the announcement isn't far away (Feb 8th) the info on the format seems well covered (the fact that many rumors are reported into "m43 forums" is unsignificant imho), but the few semiofficials news from Olympus seem to transmit some messages : - "Pro level"... - "Heritage of the OM system"... - "New product line"... Which imho make to think of a format which isn't m43... I can be wrong - of course. It's a pity that recently Olympus has suffered a very bad financial trouble which evidenced big management problems and mis-control.
