stuny Posted February 23, 2007 Share #1  Posted February 23, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) About a month ago I moved from an office at the southern tip of Manhattan to the Met Life Building (formerly the Pan Am Building) in mid town attached to Grand Central Terminal. In our neighborhood is my favorite skyscraper, the Chrysler Building, an art deco masterpiece. It opened to the public in 1930, and at the time was the world’s tallest structure, and the first to go over 1000 ft (319 meters actual height). One year later the Empire State Building opened, and eclipsed the Chrysler building in height, was also in art deco style, but otherwise pales in comparison. On the 31st floor exterior are replicas of the Chrysler auto’s radiator cap, and on the 60th floor exterior are replicas of the Chrysler auto’s hood ornament. The first shot is from quite some time ago. The others are from yesterday morning. I need to redo the last one with a blue sky, and I need to get details of the hood ornament and radiator cap. Another time. See our site for four pages of Manhattan photos.

azzo Posted February 23, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted February 23, 2007 Beautiful set of images Stuart. The last being my favourite. Lovely angle to it. Â Azzo
jmr Posted February 23, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted February 23, 2007 Stuart, Â The Chrysler's one of my favorites too - thanks for the pictures. Like Ivan, I think the last shot the most powerful.
davidmires Posted February 23, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted February 23, 2007 This is also my favorite skyscraper. Can you see it from your office window? I like #2 in this series the best, although I might rotate it slightly counter-clockwise. Cheers, David.
andybarton Posted February 23, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted February 23, 2007 The colours in number 2 do it for me. Â Roll on 2009
ECliffordSmith Posted February 23, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted February 23, 2007 Stuart, Â This is a lovely series. I find the last image the most appealing too. Â Thank you for the background information too. Â I find the 40 and 60 Wall Tower buildings particularly beautiful in your City along with this stunning building. hsw Posted February 24, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted February 24, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Stuart, I've always admired these on your site. It's my favorite NYC landmark; the building sort of 'says it all' about that Golden Era of your city. Here's one from my very first day with my 90 Summicron several years ago. And very new to scanning at that time, you'll notice I got the image backwards (didn't realize it until the next time I was up on the Empire State Bldg!) Â Thanks, Henry
JE Posted February 24, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted February 24, 2007 I prefer the last one. An unusual perspective of a building instantly recognizable for its crown.
stuny Posted February 24, 2007 Author Share #9 Â Posted February 24, 2007 Ivan, John, David, Andy, Ed & Jonathan - thank you. Barebara pointed out to me that I failed to mention is it her favorite building, too. Â Henry - Great shot. I need to do the tourist thing and go up the Empires State Building to get a similar shot.
