wlaidlaw Posted January 4, 2012 Share #21 Posted January 4, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Presumably you can't get C41 B&W film in Barbados? Ian, I would be surprised if you can get any black and white film at all in Barbados. From memory, apart from the duty free shops, there is only one very small camera shop as an adjunct to an opticians. Wilson

MPerson Posted January 4, 2012 Share #22 Posted January 4, 2012 It's all a bit moot because a quick search on Google suggests you can no longer buy the B&W single use cameras. Ian - You can still get them. I buy batches of them and post them off to other photographers around the world/UK. One photo for each photographer then back to me for developing/printing. Stealth3kpl Posted January 4, 2012 Share #23 Posted January 4, 2012 Andy, I'm sure I've asked you before: where do you get your Double X? Is it the UK suppliers here: http://www.project-double-x.org/suppliers.html Pete
wattsy Posted January 4, 2012 Share #24 Posted January 4, 2012 Ian - You can still get them. I buy batches of them I guess I was thinking of the Kodak B&W single use cameras which seem to have sadly been discontinued. Do the Rollei ones use C41 film? stunsworth Posted January 4, 2012 Share #26 Posted January 4, 2012 What are the upsides and downsides if any, of using film designed for movie rather than still use? If will cause huge problems if processed in a standard mini lab. Additional layers on the film will shed and ruin both the chemistry and any other films being processed in the same batch. Not sure, but the lab may also need to clean all the innards of their mini lab. I seem to remember that there's no orange mask, so it's difficult to print. MPerson Posted January 5, 2012 Share #27 Posted January 5, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Andy, I'm sure I've asked you before: where do you get your Double X? Is it the UK suppliers here:Project Double-X | Suppliers for Double-X Pete Yes Pete but the best is Peter Hopkins at "That's A Wrap" really helpful chap and often has short ends/re-cans available. Check the "Discounted Stock" under "Film Stock" or give him a ring I guess I was thinking of the Kodak B&W single use cameras which seem to have sadly been discontinued. Do the Rollei ones use C41 film? Ian - not to my knowledge. What are the upsides and downsides if any, of using film designed for movie rather than still use?Wilson Wilson - Downsides If it is a 400ft can, transferring it to 100ft cores for a daylight loader or straight to 35mm cassettes. Need a large changing bag or a darkroom/light tight space to do it in. If you have re-cans or short ends the may have been exposed if not handled properly. I have only had that once. The base is a bit thicker than regular 35mm film but in practice is not a problem. Upsides: Close to the old Tri-X. Bulk works out much cheaper. Because film companies like new fresh stock it is easy to get old stock that has been refrigerated for around £30 for 400ft. However, even the full price for fresh stock - approx £90 - it is good value when Tri-X is roughly £55 for 100ft. I shoot it at 400 asa but also work in the 200-800 asa range. Any B&W developer can be used. ORWO also do two nice MP film in 100ft cans and the cores, when empty, are perfect for rolling Double-X for daylight loaders. If will cause huge problems if processed in a standard mini lab. Additional layers on the film will shed and ruin both the chemistry and any other films being processed in the same batch. Not sure, but the lab may also need to clean all the innards of their mini lab. Pete - only the colour film stock has the nasty remjet backing. B&W stock is just the same as 35mm B&W film - it has no backing.

hypeber Posted February 17, 2012 Share #39 Posted February 17, 2012 2011 was my first film-only year since the Nikon D70 came out. I now don't own a proper digital camera. Just 2 M2s, a Kowa SIX, a Hasselblad 500c/m, an OM1n, an OM2n and a Rollei 35s. How quickly things get out of hand when you're having fun.Film only for me in 2012 if Portra stays available. Happy New Year. Pete Hi, i am new to leica. just bought my first m7. wlaidlaw Posted February 17, 2012 Share #40 Posted February 17, 2012 Looks like a Barton 1972 to me. Lovely straps but they don't have the very comfortable neck pad that Luigi's (Leicatime.com) have. The Barton's are fine if you are using a light lens but I find them too thin for all day on an M9 with say a MATE or 35 Chrome Lux. I have now got the Barton on my IIF, which is very light.
