Would it be courteous for Mods to explain to OP why threads removed or modified

If wonder if it might be courteous or helpful for Mods to explain to OP why their threads removed or modified, as and when the mods feel it is necessary to do so.

In an effort to be helpful to any forum member seeking an economical M fit body, I posted yesterday that a dealer in France was selling a Konica Hexar RF body at a pretty low price. Now I personally don't need any more M bodies, film or digital but I am sure there are folks on the forum who might. I have no connection with the dealer or the sale.

It appears that the thread has been deleted or moved. I feel that a quick email from the moderator who did so, would have been appreciated by me, explaining why they felt this thread was inappropriate, not least so I can avoid the same error in future, whilst trying to be helpful to other forum users. Just deleting it, is not I feel, in the spirit of the way this forum operates.

As a parting note, the same thing happened to me. I literally could not find my thread until someone found it for me in Barnack's Bar. What in the description of Barnack's Bar would lead me or anyone else to place a photo project there? Nothing.

This is just rude on the moderator's part, IMO.

And to be told that I did not understand the forum and I was at fault is inexcusable.

Therefore, I have asked the Admin to remove me and my posts from this forum. It is obvious that there is no chemistry here that works for me. My apologies to all. And Happy New Year.

Dave, that seems a great shame.

Whilst the moderators, like all of us, are capable of mistakes, I can't imagine that they intended to be rude.

Are you sure you won't reconsider? You'll be missing a great deal. There are a lot of very nice, interesting people here. Including some of the moderators!

Thank you, Peter. Yes, of course, your are correct.

"Including some of the moderators." That is akin to saying a lot of interesting people dine at an exclusive restaurant and some of the servers and management are nice and interesting, too. I don't know the moderators here. They don't know me. Yet, courtesy is too time-consuming. I don't know about you, but I don't dine at a restaurant where I am treated rudely by the staff. Life is too short.

I have read the post you placed in the Photo section, complaining that a thread of yours ad been moved.

There is no rudeness on the part of anyone, Moderator or not, in that thread. You are just being advised to see how the various sub-sections of the forum work.

I have also PM'd you about this.

If I move threads, I do try to PM the poster to advise them, but sometimes forget, or I'm doing something on the hoof. I also make sure that there is a stub-thread left in the original place for 24 hours, so that the original poster can see.

Andy, please, end of discussion for me. I did not say you moved the thread or failed to let me know. We simply disagree and there is no common ground evidently. I did as you said. I was starting a thread for PHOTOS. Not discussing it. That is probably where the secret moderation came in as they did not understand that I was simply starting a thread for a photo project and was looking for images to post whilst it got moved. So, we have a tempest in a teapot.

Time to move on. Andy, you're a nice person. Sorry things didn't work out for me.

Well, the last bit ("some of the moderators") was intended to be semi-humorous. I find the moderators here exactly the same as everyone else. Mostly very helpful, well-informed, polite, good people who try very hard to make the forum successful. Occasionally one may have an off-day, accidentally offend someone, or simply make a mistake. Just like all the rest of us. I've never found them to be discourteous. But they are human, and they're not being paid to do what must be quite a difficult and time-consuming job.

I'd ask you to give them the benefit of the doubt and make a judgement after you've had more of a chance to enjoy what the forum can offer.

The problem with your thread idea was that you were asking for an opinion from other members and you didn't include any photos. I don't know who moved it, but I'm sure that would be the reason why. others have responded to the thread saying that it's a good idea. On behalf of all the Mods, I apologise if you were not advised.

Start a new thread, in the "Other" section with the first photo and let it run from there.

So start a new one. Only, this time, include a photograph in your first post.....

Having a moderator explain the reason a thread is moved would be quite helpful to me as a recent member. I initially gravitated to the M9 forum and have posted there exclusively, but not always properly. I recently posted a thread regarding a trip to India that I will be taking. After getting a fair amount of attention it was moved to the "Post-processing" forum for reasons that apparently befuddled the moderator as well. It was ultimately moved to the "Customer" forum where I should have posted in the first place. Those of us new to the forum would find it helpful to hear why posts are moved so as not to walk in others footsteps off the same cliff.

Respectfully,

David
