I really like that photo- it's great. It perfectly captures the sense of bleak meaninglessness and nihilism that sometimes lurks just beneath modern society... Well done.

It reminded me somehow of some graffiti I used to go past on a train- it said:

eat- sleep- eat- work- eat- sleep- eat- work- eat- sleep- eat- work- eat- sleep- eat- work.... on and on and on- for a few kilometers...

almost cruel after a fashion... Eat sleep, eat work?

Amazing how you got in there amongst the spectacular shots of world events- your image is so totally different from the other "World Press Photo" style shots in the series. Sheer quality of the vision did it, and the fact that you were looking at your subject the Leica way.

Congratulations, well deserved!

For me the other strong pictures are Tsunami Oil Slick and Libyan Rebels, but IMHO yours stands out in terms of "texture" - it really looks depressingly wet and that is not at all easy to capture however hard it might be raining. Plus as you indicate the multifaceted possible interpretations
