IWC Doppel Posted December 19, 2011 Share #1 Â Posted December 19, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Anyone know if there are any alternative lens hood options for the 35mm Summicron, I have a mint 12526 on my 35mm summciron Asph that fits my 35mm MkIV which has a marked uo 12524 (they look the same) Â Any alternatives that might be cheap and or interesting, I really like some of the early 'classic' looking hoods ? lct Posted December 20, 2011 Share #3 Â Posted December 20, 2011 The 12504 hood is very nice but less efficient than regular plastic hoods for 35/2 v4 and 35/2 asph. Here on a 28/2.8 asph which uses the same hood as the 35/2 asph. The 12585 hood should fit as well but i don't have one with me here so i'm not 100% sure. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4094/4751957078_d4cd148742_b.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4123/4751317039_b249d172c6_b.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4134/4751957374_aec11b658c_b.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4142/4751317265_b5931d27c3_b.jpg

There are more out there,  None of those are clip-on hoods.  OP - there have been some Chinese copies "der Ersatz" of the classic vented hood, but the ones I got were ever so slightly defective. One tab did not extend fully from its slot. A gentle touch with a thin dremel disk fixed it.

myoder Posted December 20, 2011 Share #6 Â Posted December 20, 2011 I have an older vented 12585 which does not list 35 Summicron on the hood but I put it on my 35 Summicron ASPH and it seems to work ok, although I have not done much with the M9/35 Summicron combo stopped down. Both are pretty new. I prefer this hood to the one that came with the lens and was happy I still had it. It clips on pretty nice and tight.
lct Posted December 20, 2011 Share #7 Â Posted December 20, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) That's what i suspected thank you. Remains to see if it causes vignetting with FF cams.
pico Posted December 21, 2011 Share #8 Â Posted December 21, 2011 OP didn't specify a clip on. Â Oh really. Did the lens he specified (35mm Summicron) accept a threaded lens shade, and did you try to match it (if it exists) to those available in your link? pico Posted December 21, 2011 Share #10  Posted December 21, 2011 Maybe this one will fit? For Leica M 39mm Metal Vented Lens Hood Shade - Tmart.com  That wold be cool, but it looks like it would have to be pressed or glued on. Am I wrong? And does it take series filters?

lct Posted December 21, 2011 Share #12 Â Posted December 21, 2011 Bought a black one like this from Heavystar by curiosity. Works fine but it is not a clip-on hood so i must screw it onto my IR-cut filters. No vignetting problems with 50mm lenses but i have not tried in on my Summicrons 35. Beware that screw-in metal hoods may ruin filter threads of lenses in case on drop or bump. Happened once to me so i prefer clip-on or rubber hoods generally.
