jc_braconi Posted December 17, 2011 Share #21 Posted December 17, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) My R8 screen is the same as the Viso about the aspect, only the dot line for the DMR I add a mag. lens (+/- 1.75) on the viewfinder from Brightscreen.com (you can see it on the picts) you can get trhe same for the Viso III I think, need to check the measures. Advertisement Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 Hi jc_braconi, Take a look here For Televit. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wlaidlaw Posted December 17, 2011 Share #22 Posted December 17, 2011 JC, I took this photo before I got my OTVXO 5X finder (mainly for macro with flash on the Viso), which could have made for more accurate focusing. I know someone else who changed his screen on the Viso and did quite a bit of experimenting, found that although it seems illogical, you could optimise the screen for close focus or distant but not both. It may also be that my Viso needs its alignment checked. I am not taking on my next trip, so I may send it to Malcolm Taylor for a service along with my 65 Elmar and 280 Telyt and ask him to set up for a best compromise. jc_braconi Posted December 18, 2011 Share #25 Posted December 18, 2011 What is the code for that one? Wilson I just coming back to check but there is no engraving on and I know that I bought as a complete combo. Micro visoflex III with interchangeable screen and special large viewfinder. Sorry May be it was catalogued in scientifics items, and may be some people knows.
zeitz Posted December 18, 2011 Share #26 Posted December 18, 2011 JC, I've never found codes for the VII or VIII, Micro or Repro reflex housings. I have a VII Micro and there is no code on it or the fat finder. I suspect the codes are something like 54xxxx. The medical/scientific equipment seem to have 6 digit codes. Correct... give a look to these two pages of the 1967 photomicrography catalog : Leitz_Microscope_Catalog_Prices_1967_pg17.pdf Leitz_Microscope_Catalog_Prices_1967_pg18.pdf 543097 (IFPEB) -2nd page - is a good candidate for JC's item. luigi bertolotti Posted December 19, 2011 Share #30 Posted December 19, 2011 $186 for an MD body - robbery ;-}} Wilson ... robbery or not... $100 LESS than the "Micro Visoflex".... Anyway, is interesting to see what is asked for a fine MD today... https://www.leicashop.com/vintage/md--p-208.html (it includes also the data strip baseplate... the $19 accessory - 14131 - in the page I posted)
ldhrads Posted December 19, 2011 Share #31 Posted December 19, 2011 Jaap, The 400 and 560 Telyt heads to fit this aperture body and Televit are good fun to use with the shoulder stock but just don't expect to take any decent photos with them. The 560 in particular is a pretty dreadful lens. Only sharp in the centre and about as low contrast as you could find. It makes the 280 Telyt look like a stellar performer. I was lucky that I got the whole kit, Televit, Aperture body, 400 and 560 Telyts a couple of V to R/L'flex adapters (one of which you bought from me) and Visoflex II plus filters etc in a fitted case for less than £500 a few years ago. I think this a fair price to pay for an amusing toy but people are now asking around £1500 - £2000 for one of these kits, which given the poor optical quality, I think is too much. I think the Novoflex lenses you already have are somewhat better. Wilson Wison, I have to disagree, I like my 560, and have gotten some impressive shots with it. For example... This was shot wide open, and I'll admit to cropping it, but only minimally. I have a whole series from this rookery that I shot and couldn't be happier with. Welcome, dear visitor! wlaidlaw Posted December 19, 2011 Share #33 Posted December 19, 2011 Lawrence, There is absolutely nothing wrong with the photographer here and I know how difficult it is to judge quality with only 950 pixels to play with. However, the definition on the feathers is quite soft. The cheapest modern Vivitar would be much crisper. Now it may be that there is an optimum distance with this lens. Doug Herr says it is best at around 75 - 100 metres. The photo I posted was nearer 1 km distance. Great lens or not, I will be hanging onto mine. Not least because the 400 is quite a bit better. ldhrads Posted December 19, 2011 Share #34 Posted December 19, 2011 Somehow I missed out on the 400, I have a Kern 400 in screw mount that I picked up before I got the 560, so it doesn't mate onto the Televit, (although I haven't tried taking the head off the focussing mount). If I stumble on one and SWMBO doesn't notice I'll pick up the leica lens head in 400. It is fun to show up with that 560 mounted where other photographers are.... luigi bertolotti Posted December 19, 2011 Share #35 Posted December 19, 2011 Luigi, I was actually amazed how cheap it was, knowing what is asked for them today. Wilson Indeed looks a good price... the microscope was (of course) much mure costly... is the Viso that , in a certain sense, is "premium priced" in respect to the "consumer version"... I have under my eyes the US prices of 1964 : - M2 w/o lens $ 249 - M2x w/o lens $ 210 (code 10300.. "a M2 without self timer" (never noticed this double listing) - M1 w/o lens $ 188 - fairly consistent with the microscopes catalog (MD hasn't finder... but is a "special" and we are 3 years after). - Visoflex III with 4x prism finder $ 162 !! And even less ($ 132) if bought w/o finder and with the vertical 5x finder as separate part. So $ 286 for the Micro Visoflex with "special" 5x finder is significantly higher, considering that the interchangable screen is not such a complicated feature... but, indeed, it included also a pair of other accessories (a tube and a "mounting bracket")

wlaidlaw Posted December 23, 2011 Share #37 Posted December 23, 2011 JC, Many thanks for that link. I already have all of this apart from the special VF, which I am not clear if it is included with the sale or is an extra (assume it is included). I would guess the black Elmar 65 is not included either. I might contact him and ask him if he would part ex my silver 65 and 16464K for a black one. My black Elmar was stolen by school kids when I was on a job and the silver one is not of the optical quality. Wilson
luigi bertolotti Posted December 24, 2011 Share #38 Posted December 24, 2011 If the sale does include ALL the items depicted in the right window, is a very good price imho.
wlaidlaw Posted December 24, 2011 Share #39 Posted December 24, 2011 Luigi, The sale is for the Visoflex Micro only and three finders or so the email from the seller seemed to imply. It was not the clearest email. They will apparently only sell Viso accessories and lenses to people who buy a Visoflex from them. Seems a strange way to do business to me. I was interested in buying the black 65 Elmar, to replace my Silver 65 Elmar but no was the answer. Wilson
