Hello all of you,

This is one of my first posts on this forum. I just want to share with you that today is really an amazing day for me... it even feels unreal!

This afternoon I went to my local photoshop for some advise regarding a CZ 50mm Sonnar. It seemed like an interesting lens to me for B&W photography.

However, it appeared that since last friday they had one 50 lux in stock and it kept yelling at me loudly: buy me! buy me! buy me! Admit that you want me!

And so I left the shop with a 50mm lux asph... and a feeling that is hard to describe. Is this called happiness??

Best regards,

Eric

Congratulations. I am always amazed that in some areas, one can wait months and months, and in another area there is one on the shelf. Fortunately I have the lenses I wan't, for I am in one of those areas where on waits.

And welcome to the forum.

No-it is not called happiness - it is an affliction called GAS - the sympoms are a flat wallet, bottomed out credit cards, a disgruntled spouse, a cupboard full of Leica lenses and bodies, and endless threads on DOF, bokeh and diffraction in this forum...There is no cure known to mankind.:o:p

I gather some poor sufferers even go so far as to have their cameras dressed up in leather!;)

Thank you all for your warm welcome!!!

yes, I think I was a lucky with my timing.

I can hardly wait to see the results of this lens however, I will have to wait until the weekend... I am an analogue B&W guy and it will take a few days before I can make my first prints.. hmmmm... 40x60cm will be great I think :D...

Two days further and still no feelings of guilt or regret...

I am still breathing...

I can still walk.

I think it's going the right way.

Nevertheless... I hope Jaap isn't right with his statement about GAS :eek::eek::eek:

hmmm... 3 leica lenses should be enough... or???

That's what I said:eek:. Now...

9 lenses should be enough... or??? :o

"Well, if I had THIS lens, I COULD..." Heh. It's a vicious cycle. :D

Seriously though, if I could only keep one lens it would be the 1.4/50 Summilux ASPH.

I just recently (finally) got one myself, and I'd probably have to agree. It's small, fast and stupid good. Plus, the 50mm focal length is very agreeable to just about anything. Though the 35 Lux might put up a good fight (since it would also work well on the M8).

I have the 1.4/35 Summilux FLE also and is my second most used lens, closely followed by the 2.0/28 Summicron ASPH.

35 was previously my favourite focal length (from my Nikon F3/T and Contax T3 days).

Although in some ways I find the 35 more versatile as a single lens for travel, casual family photography, etc. and often take it out as my single lens kit, the 50 would still be my lens if I only kept one (50 & 28 if I could only keep 2). I think the 1.4/50 Summilux ASPH really is extraordinary.

I finally got around to shooting with the Summilux-M 50mm f/1,4 ASPH more this week, and all I can really say is "wow." It really is extraordinary - and from wide open. I think I found my new favorite lens. Seriously. You're so right.

It was a tough choice, as yeah - I kind of like 35mm as a more "all purpose" type of lens as well, depending. On the M8, no question as I found 50mm to be a bit long. Though to be honest, on the M8 I really enjoyed the Zeiss Biogon T* 2,8/25 ZM (which ironically, comes out to about 35mm with the crop).

I'm fairly certain my next lens will be the Summicron-M 28mm f/2 ASPH. I think you're also right about a two lens kit between the 28/50 to be a killer setup.

My amazing day came on December 19 when I received my 50 summilux from Maison du Leica which I ordered last May. Will be spending Christmas in Florence and the New Year in Venice and I will surely put the lens to use. I will post my shots sometime in January when I get back home to the Phillipines. I'm so excited. Been shooting the 50 summilux here in Paris for the week.
