adan Posted December 10, 2011 Share #21 Posted December 10, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Geez, we're a tiny little shop, yet we still manage to keep a couple of new Summarits in stock (as well as a dozen or so used M lenses).
Advertisement Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 Hi adan, Take a look here So I stopped by the Leica dealer..... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Ellie Posted December 10, 2011 Share #22 Posted December 10, 2011 The new thing here is conditions for buying some lenses, you have to buy/have bought a camera body too in the same shop..
jaapv Posted December 10, 2011 Share #23 Posted December 10, 2011 So buy elsewhere. The age of the Pony Express has passed, nowadays we have newfangled stuff like UPS and Paypal...
Ecaton Posted December 10, 2011 Share #24 Posted December 10, 2011 1. What is the big deal of not wanting to disclose the store's name? 2. What gear are you presently shooting with, again? Sorry, but it was never easy to get me, not even in kindergarden.
Mstephens Posted December 10, 2011 Author Share #25 Posted December 10, 2011 1. What is the big deal of not wanting to disclose the store's name? 2. What gear are you presently shooting with, again? Sorry, but it was never easy to get me, not even in kindergarden. Me either. I think it would be too much like kindergarden (or junior high school) to call out the store's name here. Right now I have a Contax G2 kit as well as a myriad of Olympus OM gear for film, and Olympus E-series (E-1, E-P2) for digital. I'll be selling most of it to move into an M-system. algrove Posted December 10, 2011 Share #26 Posted December 10, 2011 No, it wasn't in California, nor any of the advertisers from this forum. I'd rather not disclose the shop name. Don't. They'll die a slow death all by themselves.

MarkP Posted December 11, 2011 Share #28 Posted December 11, 2011 It strikes me that this isn't a company you would want to deal with regardless. You will just have to buy over the phone or online, or travel to get your hands on the goodies. In the end it's their camera, but it is your money and they obviously won't be getting any of it:D. christer Posted December 11, 2011 Share #29 Posted December 11, 2011 ............I'd rather not disclose the shop name. So that we may continue to suspect the innocent? At least you should list all the innocent that meet the 6+ criteria.
siglo Posted December 11, 2011 Share #30 Posted December 11, 2011 This is what I usually see in almost every "place chosen(?) by Leica to sell high-end equipment" that sell new Leica gear. Leica Mayfair is an exception, and probably all other leica boutiques. There you get to try out every leica lens currently in production but you can't purchase any because they are all out of stock. The photo is from the Leica Dubai dealer where I was lucky and managed to know they have a 24 summilux in customs the day I visited them. They had short wait lists for M9s and M lenses. What I liked about them is that they don't take deposits and act on a first come first served basis. They call all their customers on the list and who ever shows up first gets it. So I had a friend pick it up for me since I don't live there. Welcome, dear visitor! siglo Posted December 11, 2011 Share #32 Posted December 11, 2011 Now that sounds like a new idea (excuse) to have a desert rally-who gets to the checkered flag first, gets the lens. He said they got 3 M9's and a Noctilux earlier and called everyone on the list. I asked him if people were running into the store, he laughed and said no. I got a feeling that their lists are really short. They are the only store in the UAE that carries leica gear AFAIK.
Paulus Posted December 11, 2011 Share #33 Posted December 11, 2011 I dropped in at the only camera store in the area (pop. 6M+) selling Leica, wanting to take a look at the M9. The guy tells me that they have the M9 in stock, but he can't demo it. Why, I ask, and he says because we don't have any lenses. Hmm, OK, but I can't see an M9? No, we keep them in the back. We haven't had lenses in more than a year, and don't see getting them in the foreseeable future. You would think that they would want to get rid of any unsold camera bodies possible, if they can't "demo" them. Certainly not up to the standard that I was expecting for a.place chosen(?) by Leica to sell high-end equipment. Certainly not what Blackstone would expect of their company, I'm sure. Very disappointing, having to resort to finding one used or from an online dealer, as their response doesn't inspire confidence if I would ever need service. I find it hard to believe that a shop which sells Leica equipment in a 6M+ area , doesn't have any lenses. Not one? A few months ago a Rotterdam shopdealer said to me, that he had a 1,4 /24mm and showed it to me. " Can I try it? " " certainly " He replied. " Can I walk outside with it? " Certainly " he replied. I didn't like the lens, but sure do like the shop! When I visit a shop, where I am not allowed to try out an item, I leave the shop and never come back again. When a shopkeeper is not taking me serious as a future client, why should I take him serious as a shopkeeper? I suggest you do the same. Welcome, dear visitor! Not one, new or used, which surprised me because they are a pretty busy dealer of other brands and had a pretty full stock of new as well as used gear. There is another store in the metro area that caters more to the Pro market, but they don't carry Leica. It is curious, because they would be the more likely store to have a clientele interested in Leica, if for no other reason based on their location. It would be interesting to know how the dealers are chosen, or if the dealer chooses Leica, and how Leica is to deal with from the dealer's perspective. A few years ago, a lot of dealers stopped being Leica dealer in the Netherlands. It was a Leica idea I heard from two dealers. One of them was dealer for almost 35 years ( and afterwards he still sold/ sells Leica camera's !) They told me it had something to do with sales rate, and the way they styled their shop. On the other hand, I know a dealer in Schiedam, who told me that the styling isn't really an issue. He still has his shop " styled" in the same way he had 20 years ago. Same in Rotterdam, Den Bosch, Maastricht Köln( Germany ) and Noordwijk ( very little town ) That's why I believe that the sales rate of a shop is the most important argument. Ergo, your shop isn't/wasn't selling enough?

Messsucherkamera Posted December 12, 2011 Share #37 Posted December 12, 2011 Or Camera West? I have never received anything other than topnotch professional service and venerable advice from the august gents at Camera West, even though I have never set foot in any of their locations. I would be flabbergasted to hear otherwise about them (but anything is possible, I suppose).

I heard the same thing from dealers here in Switzerland. “My” shop-cum-lab I visit the most still has the Leica logo on the shop window, but the owner claims he can’t order anything from Leica that’s more expensive than 100 Swiss Francs. Well, he can order it, but he won’t receive anything apart from a “no go”. He, too, said it was due to non-met sales figures, Leica apparently wants to concentrate shippments to where they are needed most (i.e. sold the most often). Might also have something to do with the Leica Stores having opened here over the past few weeks in Basel and Zurich. Well, not a biggie for me, I’m set with my gear for now …
algrove Posted December 12, 2011 Share #39 Posted December 12, 2011 I was in Nuremburg, Germany this past summer at a very large Photo store selling about any camera/lenses you can imagine including Leica. You had to wait for around 10 minutes just to talk to one of the 5-6 salespersons working. Very bust store. They had no M bodies and ONE 28mm new Leica lens. Did have many Zeiss ZM lenses including the 15mm which I tried on my M9, but did not buy. It never dawned on me that maybe they were not being supplied by Leica. They do have a very large Ebay presence and have an active Ebay Hong Kong store as well as an Austiran store.
Double Negative Posted December 12, 2011 Share #40 Posted December 12, 2011 ...Dale Photo in Florida offers a test drive for a lens when you are not sure if it is the one for you. You pay $100 up front. If you decide you want the lens then the $100 is credited towards the purchase price of the lens. Otherwise, it only costs you $100 to make sure that is the lens you want or not. They mention not all lenses are available for this Leica sponsored program, but many are available. Come to think about it, they might have assumed I already had an M9. In any event, this is a terrific program for any Leica enthusiast. That's a "terrific program?" I have to lay a hundred bucks on the table in order to "see" a lens? I don't have to drop a C note on the table when I walk into a jewelry or Breitling store. I don't have to do that at the car dealer either when I go out for a test drive on something worth ten times the cost of a Leica lens (well, maybe not the Noctilux). I went to a local dealer to check out the M9 in person. Similarly, they "had one but I couldn't see it." Fine. I left and bought it elsewhere.
