250swb Posted December 5, 2011 Share #1 Posted December 5, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does anybody else find the scrolling bar on the left of the screen (on the main pages) make them feel sick? Trying to read the stationary titles with the rolling adverts in the corner of my eye is my idea of weathering a force 8 gale in an inflatable dinghy. Advertisement Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Hi 250swb, Take a look here The Forum is making me feel seasick!. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
azzo Posted December 5, 2011 Share #2 Posted December 5, 2011 IMO, it would be cheaper to become a sponsoring member and get rid of the adverts than buying some pills against sea sickness. ....
250swb Posted December 5, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted December 5, 2011 I don't know, it seems a bit of a communist agenda blanking advertisers, so I can't agree with you guys on that. Commerce is what makes the world go around. But if I join the inner sanctum is it possible the ads are even better maybe? Its just sickness I'm trying to stop, not the world going round Steve
andybarton Posted December 5, 2011 Share #4 Posted December 5, 2011 If you sponsor, you don't get any ads at all. My wife thought it odd that I have paid NOT to receive something

250swb Posted December 5, 2011 Author Share #14 Posted December 5, 2011 As a newly paid up card carrying member of the LUF Anti-Advertising Party I expect to get my tractor before the rest of the proletariat. Of course following the premise 'from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs', mine will be a Lamborghini tractor, with an additional supercharger, thank you. Now, where do I get the petrol coupon? Steve

Ellie Posted December 25, 2011 Share #18 Posted December 25, 2011 I'm trying a new ad-blocker today (it's a cutout piece of paper covering the left part of the screen) ..it's working, sort of I actually think we are contributing enough by just being active members.. other free forums has banned animated ads and raised pic size limit from 200kb to 1MB this year, I guess bandwidth is getting cheaper now.. pico Posted December 27, 2011 Share #19 Posted December 27, 2011 [...]I actually think we are contributing enough by just being active members [...] If you are a Leica owner, then I cannot imagine a reason you would not contribute $ to the forum to gain the advantages it offers. Freeloader comes to mind.
gyoung Posted December 28, 2011 Share #20 Posted December 28, 2011 Personally I am happy for the forum to run on advertising, in itself a useful source on occasions when I can afford something. I don't feel any more a 'freeloader' than when I am watching commercial tv or reading a'free' newspaper. Unnescessarily emotive language IMHO, and if you don't like it you can pay to turn it off. Good Will to all men at this time of year Gerry
