jankap Posted December 10, 2011 Share #61 Posted December 10, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) OK. It is the problem of a product planning department to plan products for an optimal use of the skill of your company for a interesting number of customers to achieve a reasonable profit. There may be several solutions. The R-line wasn't, the Apple Newton wasn't too. At AEG it was said (for some time): the white (kitchen) products make profit, with the power stations we produce losses and the computers lie in between. I was in the last mentioned division. But nowadays innovation is asked more than nostalgia, I think. On the other hand, last week the latest rumor of Photo Rumors was a brief history of Leica starting in 1850(?!). Advertisement Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 Hi jankap, Take a look here Leica EVIL. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
janki Posted December 11, 2011 Share #62 Posted December 11, 2011 Is it possible to realize these personal wishes AND land between X1 and M9 in $$$? I don't possess R-lenses and only have a minimal set of LTM-lenses. I would be interested in a kind of a Digilux-3, updated for EVIL and APS-C. New lenses with AF, my LTMs via adapter. Leica quality at costs interesting for a great circle of customers. Is it technically possible to add a 9/10 electrical contacts to the M-mount for AF, for auto f/stop, etc.? Is the M-mount the optimal ($$$) choice for APS-C? Would Leica eventually go for a foreign mount (E-mount)? Jan E-Mount is and will remain SONY. The new Leica camera is going to be complete digital. What about an i-Mount? That could really help increase Leica's market share. Steve Jobs had a big love for the Leica camera. Welcome, dear visitor! hoppyman Posted December 12, 2011 Share #64 Posted December 12, 2011 :rolleyes:In body AF??? A 50 mm lens moves about 10 mm as it focusses, a 135 considerably more. That would be a funny-looking M camera resulting... Should be quite a feat squeezing this into the M form factor Welcome, dear visitor! jankap Posted December 12, 2011 Share #65 Posted December 12, 2011 The new EVIL camera will certainly be AF and will certainly have its own range of lenses. James, we have developed, that AF and a new line of lenses (in place of lenses for the Digilux-3) seem to be a logical step. Also APS-C and not APS-H, with live view. A kind of an E-mount to support R, M and LTM lenses. The E-mount offers much room for intelligent adapters. Sony even offers a kind of a Visoflex for the E-mount! What is to decide next for the Leica-EVIL? 1. built-in EVF 2. f/stop ring on lenses 3. built-in flash 4. image stabilizer 5. remote control function 6. fixed LCD or not Jan
jankap Posted December 13, 2011 Share #66 Posted December 13, 2011 New line of lenses? Leica has a line of cine-lenses with a image circle, that fits. These lenses could be modified. A completely new design would not be necessary. Jan

A completely new design would not be necessary. Jan C lenses have image circle of about 32mm far less than 24x36 format requires. Price, now you talking . When they were launched word was abour $200,000 for a set of eight. Let me work it out for you it is $25,000 per lens - M Noctilux is cheap in comparison only $10,000. jankap Posted December 13, 2011 Share #69 Posted December 13, 2011 OK, if my proposals aren't good enough, I eventually am too far away. We did not talk about FullFrame, didn't we. FF needs a circle of 43 mm, APS-C of 29 mm. Jan
jaapv Posted December 13, 2011 Share #70 Posted December 13, 2011 I've just been estimating the coverage of the D-Vario Elmarit 14-50 2.8-3.5 - it might just do those 29 mm. That would mean Leica has a good Panaleica lens in house. But small it is not.

Jan APS-C or FF discussion is purely academic, C lenses are BIG, here is some information posted in customer forum http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/customer-forum/213701-interview-dr-kaufmann-f-d-times.html.
