tobey bilek Posted November 28, 2011 Share #1 Posted November 28, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) My son has a used M8 in the mail with a dust spot on the sensor cover. Any reason why I can not use Eclipse on it ? If not, what recommendation is there.

Erik Gunst Lund Posted November 28, 2011 Share #2 Posted November 28, 2011 Who say you can't?
RoRoRoPa Posted November 28, 2011 Share #3 Posted November 28, 2011 If it is dust, blow it away with a blower. Or get a Pentax O-ICK1 to pick it off the sensor safely.
tobey bilek Posted November 28, 2011 Author Share #4 Posted November 28, 2011 Nobody says I can`t. I am just being careful and want to use what I already know. Certainly will use blower as first step and stop if it cures it.
SangNguyen Posted November 28, 2011 Share #5 Posted November 28, 2011 Vote for using a blower. It should be very careful to clean by touching the sensor planar
ho_co Posted November 29, 2011 Share #6 Posted November 29, 2011 Nothing wrong with Eclipse. That's what I use on my M8.
don_panko Posted November 29, 2011 Share #7 Posted November 29, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I prefer a wet method of cleaning the sensor glass cover as blowing dust away is a temporary fix. The dust is still in the mechanism and at the next lens change it can and will move back to the sensor. Now sucking dust might work but I still prefer a wet cleaning process. It seems to last the longest.
jaapv Posted November 30, 2011 Share #8 Posted November 30, 2011 If used in excess Eclipse will leave a white residue that is hard to remove. I prefer the fluid provided by Dust Aid or medical grade Isopropyl alcohol. The best way to remove loose dust is to use the Green Clean vacuum cleaner. Their Wet and Dry system for wet cleaning is very practical, but not very effective for oil. It is imperative to blow clean the sensor before wet cleaning. You do not want to drag a mini- grain of sand across it with your swab.
Dietmar_Wi Posted November 30, 2011 Share #9 Posted November 30, 2011 The Pentax Solution works pretty well. Leica uses it themself as can be seen in one of the 2009 - M9 videos published by M.Reichmann.
lct Posted November 30, 2011 Share #10 Posted November 30, 2011 Nothing wrong with Eclipse. That's what I use on my M8. Ditto. I only use this with my digicams including an M8.2.
