niknik182 Posted November 22, 2011 Share #1 Â Posted November 22, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am looking for a suitable flash unit to use with my M7. I know most Leica users don't use flash but I quite like and I like experimenting so I thought I would try it out. Im just not sure what flash unit to use, I want to use it for fill flash but I think I need to get a flash that will allow faster sync speeds. If anyone has some experience using flash on the M7 then I would much appreciate your input. Thanks.

fotohuis Posted November 22, 2011 Share #2 Â Posted November 22, 2011 You won't need a flash very often on this camera so a SF24-D is perfect in those situations you need it. It's a very small and compact flash unit. You can use it on TTL-mode on the M7 on flash and A setting. A WA diffuser till 24mm is also included. budrichard Posted November 22, 2011 Share #3 Â Posted November 22, 2011 I have two M7's and an SF24D that I use frequently. It's a very good combination. It will not synch faster than 1/50 of a second unless in HSS mode and then there is no TTL exposure so fill is not as easy as with a BTL shutter or camera with higher synch speed. I do own a Metz unit with 3502 module but only use that for my 21mm lens, as pointed out, the WA diffuser is only good to 24mm.-Dick
peter_n Posted November 23, 2011 Share #4 Â Posted November 23, 2011 I've used Nikon SB-800 and SB-600 flashes on both an M7 and an MP. The attached pic shows the SB-800 and a Leica SF 20, the SB-600 is smaller than the SB-800 and it's about the same size as the SF 24. The Nikon flash head tilts and swivels and their flashes are very reliable.

Will the Nikon flashes operate in a TTL Mode for the M7? or do they have to be in AUTO Mode with the shutter speed set to 1/50?-Dick
Fgcm Posted November 24, 2011 Share #6 Â Posted November 24, 2011 I use an SF24 on M6 ttl. It works great. I also correct light temperature stiking a rosco 1/4 or 1/8 CTO on it. You will get great colors on kodak E100G. With this trick you do not need (most of times, but not alwais) a tilt flash. A possible solution to tilt the flash is to use a Nikon cord. It works, but It's discomfortable. Many others use this solution with great succes, but I do not. Fgcm

AFAIK the SB-600 doesn't do AUTO mode at all.
