Advertisement Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Hi Daimlere, Take a look here summicron-r 50/2 and 50/1.4 ???. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted November 13, 2011 Share #2 Â Posted November 13, 2011 Welcome to the forum Looks like the Summilux-R 50/1.4 needs a bit more DIY than the Summicron-R 50/2 to fit the Leitax bayonet. I have no experience with it though. See Leitax & Summilux 50.
cbretteville Posted November 14, 2011 Share #3 Â Posted November 14, 2011 I would think that the D700 can negate the 1 stop advantage of the Summilux over the Summicron. So you are left with a lens that is larger, weighs about twice as much, is more expensive and can give you a shallower depth of field. The 50/2, designed by Walter Mandler, is a great lens in both R and M mounts. Carl
TomB_tx Posted November 14, 2011 Share #4 Â Posted November 14, 2011 There are also 3 versions of the 50 1.4. The first two have the same optical design (later one has built-on hood and takes 55mm filters). The 3rd version was much improved optically and takes 60mm filters. It is quite hard to find. I have both the Summicron-R and (earlier version) Summilux-R, and while the 1.4 is of benefit in low light on film (lower ISO), I'd agree the 2.0 is a more practical lens. With Digital especially the speed advantage is small.
tobey bilek Posted November 14, 2011 Share #5 Â Posted November 14, 2011 Hold out for the last version if you want to use 1.4 a lot. The others are just old lenses. Â If you don`t hold out, just buy a 50 1.4 AFS Nikkor for $500 and it will be just as good if not better than the older 50 1.4 Leica R. Â AFS , not AFD version
