jmahto Posted March 10, 2016 Share #229  Posted March 10, 2016 (edited) Sometimes you are surprised !!  I love Mt. Lyell (Highest in Yosemite @ 13,114 feet > 3,997 m) since climbing it is just within my personal capability.  I had climbed it in 2010 and since then wanted to take a high resolution picture of our climbing route. In 2013 I bought 400mm Telyt and started using it on Nex6. Although the soft corners and edges (even on crop sensor) makes it unsuitable for landscape, I decided to use it to shoot Mt. Lyell as an experiment. It was also a test for me whether I can carry such a long lens in my hikes. In order to shoot Lyell, I climbed another mountain (Mt. Dana @ 13,061 - 3981m) at a distance of 11.5 miles (18km) from Lyell summit, with my 400mm Telyt+Nex6 in the backpack. It was windy and temperature was below freezing on the Dana summit but I managed to shoot many overlapping shots of Mt. Lyell.  After uploading these in LR, I cropped out the soft edges and corners and stitched the rest in Photoshop. My final picture was 10,100 X 4,100 pixels. Not as big as I hoped for due to heavy cropping to remove soft edges but still pretty good for my usage.Mt. Lyell is on the left (huge glacier below is Lyell Glacier) and Mt. Maclure on the right. jmahto Posted March 10, 2016 Share #231  Posted March 10, 2016 (edited) This is zoomed picture. maybe 200% crop. Notice a person on the ridge !!  I confirmed it was a person by comparing with other shots. I could notice movement between other frames of the same ridge. Finally, this ridge is part of the climbing route. I know since I took the same route in 2010.  I have no idea who the climber is and he/she has no idea of being shot !! Welcome, dear visitor! jmahto Posted March 11, 2016 Share #233  Posted March 11, 2016 From the same summit (Mt. Dana) I also shot Mt. Conness (12,589ft, 3837m), 7 miles away. This one is more accessible compared to Mt. Lyell and I was not surprised to see people on the summit.  I love the last section of Mt. Conness. (400mm Telyt 6.8 full picture on Nex6)  Welcome, dear visitor! jmahto Posted March 11, 2016 Share #234  Posted March 11, 2016 (edited) And the zoomed up crop of the summit. Two climbers are visible. The snake like ridge is visible from the bottom to the top for class 3 scrambling. Welcome, dear visitor!
