Can anyone tell me why you would go so "over the top" with the fake aging and patina?

(...)

I truly hope that given the level of stupidity seen here that the perpetrators of this fraud didn't trash a genuine black paint M3.

I'd bet that the serail number belongs to a chrome one. If you strip of the chrome it lokks like that. And it's much cheaper than a black one...

The serial number shown is for an M3 black paint (#1134025) from a batch in 1965 of 150 cameras (#1134001-1134150). Of course given what else has occurred it would not surprise me that the number has been altered. Perhaps the "0" started life as another digit? Maybe that's what put this crazy idea in someone's mind, "Oh, look how easy it would be to change one digit!!!"

They seem indeed letters (maybe oriental ideograms ?) : nothing understandable for me... the possibility it was really owned by HCB seems to me "fantasy" more and more...

I think it says, "Attention, s'il vous plait revenir à M. Henri Cartier-Bresson" :D

That crafty HCB, he came up with the concept for Code-No.com labels nearly 60 years ago!!!

Aha !!! Good eye... that's very revealing....:o... I wonder also why the "R" of the rewind knob looks like a "P"...

That seems to be ok, as the line is there but there seems to be some paint in there.

At least another "0" is wrong! :o)

The address on the warranty card seems to have another mistake, as HCB apparently lived at 198 rue der rivoli and not 190:

“I, the undersigned, Henri Cartier-Bresson, domiciliated at 198 rue de Rivoli 75001 Paris,

Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson

Did HCB ever have a black paint M3? All pictures I have seen of him with an M3, the camera was chrome. That matches stories of black tape... Later pictures have him using a black M4 (M6?), but earlier M3??

This smells.

If any of you have access to it, look at pages 380 omwards of 'HCB- the man, the image and the world, a retrospective' there are several pictures of HCB with cameras, most are too small to be identified but there are a couple of chrome M3s, and what looks very much like a black IIIg ! (image no 589)

Also on page 320, image 477 is of a 'fake leica' far more bizarre than the chinese offering.

My Bing translator made a rough (*) but acceptable translation from Korean... the last sentence in the description says " Written certificates but has not been verified that authenticity"

Moreover the description also says that the camera is "in our collection" and seems to be no words stating that it is for sale.... maybe is just a fantasist dealer, but not one who tries to sell a fake....

(*) example : "acquired Henri Beuresong.."

The M3 in question is a genuine Leica M3, no doubt about that. The (seemingly) fake part is the claim and documents that it belonged to HCB.

Sorry, I phrased that badly, I hadn't meant to suggest that the M3 wasn't genuine.
