My first roll with new Kodak Portra 160

Absolutely superb colors with more contrast than M9 ....

I tried both the Portra 160 and the 400 in 35mm. I found the 400 gave me sharper images of my grandson's eye. Probably because of the smaller f/stop ( increased dof ) with the faster film. Supposedly, the 400 is more forgiving for exposure and just as sharp as the 160 for grain. Try them both for yourself. I just got back some 120 Portra last week. Am very pleased with results.

As discussed in another current thread - what I feel you get from Portra is somehow the scene as it really looks to the human eye. I can't really say anymore than that about the way I feel when I look at some of my film images. Look at skies, for instance - digital skies can look pretty okay - until you compare them with skies shot with film! All of a sudden the digital sky doesn't quite look 'right'.
