Guest countinglincolns Posted November 6, 2011 Share #21 Posted November 6, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I fully agree, i've been using Portra 160 with exposure compensation of +1, sometimes +2, it's exactly the look i've wanted for a long time. philipus Posted December 9, 2011 Share #26 Posted December 9, 2011 I've recently discovered Portra 160 and like it a lot. It's also easy to scan using Vuescan; the built-in profiles are quite accurate. Foggy path, The Hague, Netherlands, 2011 | Flickr - Photo Sharing! DaveO Posted December 14, 2011 Share #33 Posted December 14, 2011 I tried both the Portra 160 and the 400 in 35mm. I found the 400 gave me sharper images of my grandson's eye. Probably because of the smaller f/stop ( increased dof ) with the faster film. Supposedly, the 400 is more forgiving for exposure and just as sharp as the 160 for grain. Try them both for yourself. I just got back some 120 Portra last week. Am very pleased with results. DaveO

cbretteville Posted December 16, 2011 Share #36 Posted December 16, 2011 Now have a few rolls of both 160 and 400 in 135 and 120 formats. Just need to wait a few weeks for some more light to come back to try them out. Winter solstice is just a few days away. Jippi....!! Carl

plasticman Posted December 19, 2011 Share #39 Posted December 19, 2011 Portra 160 in 35mm example here Pete As discussed in another current thread - what I feel you get from Portra is somehow the scene as it really looks to the human eye. I can't really say anymore than that about the way I feel when I look at some of my film images. Look at skies, for instance - digital skies can look pretty okay - until you compare them with skies shot with film! All of a sudden the digital sky doesn't quite look 'right'.
