Anyone tried Kodak Portra 160 for 35 mm?

I have used this film in the 120 format and liked it a lot. I was wondering if anyone has tried it in the 135 packaging? As a side note I was told it scans well.

Just shot a whole roll this morning of a typical working class street in Cannes on the recommendation of a friendly photographer. Will post if anything turns out. He hinted that I should try a 200 ASA setting but I left it at 160 for the first roll; next one will be at 200, just for fun.

On my hols, I was shooting sunny 16 so I think I can say my shots are mainly EI125.

it's my lab scan. It has been very hard to find one good over here yet once found I won't go back at least until they work so well ! Actually I discovered the 160 Portra is BETTER to be scanned than the Ektar 100 (!). No idea why yet this is how it works here, from better to (relatively) less good.

1) Portra 160 - Excellent

2) Ektar 100 - Very good - finer

3) Portra 400 - Very good - of course a little grainier

Dino, I arrive at exactly the same remark

the colors of the Portra 160 and 400 are really beautiful

Ektar is less warm than Portra

My preference goes to Portra 400

I like the Portra 160 the least when lumped in with Portra 400 and Ektar 100. Ektar is of course very different than the other two. I think I prefer Ektar over the 400... tough call though. I'd probably say I like Ektar more with overcast skies, and Portra 400 more when sunny. I shot ten rolls of the Portra 160. Very average. I doubt I'll shoot it again.

Yup

Will post some soon used in an M3, inside in the National Car museum

I was so blown away with the fine grain and perfect colour that I bought some in bulk.

The shots looked like they were made with my M9. And I mean that in a good way (eg can't seel film grain)

Much nicer than Ektar, which has it's uses, but is just too warm for me and I like a warm look.

Both the new Portra 400 and 160 are my favourite colour films now, and so long as I can afford and get them, I would not use anything else.

Hope to post a couple soon

I LOVE this film overexposed two stops because it turns "natural" colors to pastel colors. VC I underexpose a half stop to bring out its color contrast.

The Portra 160 is a finer grain version of the 160NC. A lot of people claim it's a "blend" of the VC and NC, but they're wrong. You can see the pictures yourself or the comparative sliders on Kodak's site: http://www.kodak.com/global/plugins/acrobat/en/professional/products/films/portra/portra160Brochure.pdf
