Advertisement Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 Hi Gabriel66, Take a look here New summicron 50/2 asph?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wda Posted October 15, 2011 Share #2 Â Posted October 15, 2011 Yes, I know nothing about such a lens and wonder whether Leica do too. How would it fit in the price range of the faster 50mm lenses?
lct Posted October 15, 2011 Share #3 Â Posted October 15, 2011 Even 50 EUR per mm would be too expensive given that the current lens is selling for EUR 1600 IINW.
luigi bertolotti Posted October 15, 2011 Share #4 Â Posted October 15, 2011 Only rumors at the moment (also in this forum...)... it can be a reasonable development given the "age" of current Summicron, and given that "Summicron 50" is such a legendary name in Leica history that they cannot leave it apart : 20 to 30% more than the current is imho the most probable step of pricing. Per P. Posted October 17, 2011 Share #5 Â Posted October 17, 2011 I have heard from my dealer that they have been working on this for some time. Apparently they want it to be the mother of all 50mm lenses. That perfectionism is giving some challenges on the glass front. Â He had no idea if and when it might hit the market so I think speculating on the price is only that: Speculation.
lct Posted October 17, 2011 Share #6  Posted October 17, 2011 I can't seem to recall that an updated lens was sold for more than 20% over the previous one at Leica's but i may be wrong. The challenge is not to make the mother-of-all-50's IMHO but to sell a better lens than the current Summicron for less than €2K.

lct Posted October 17, 2011 Share #8 Â Posted October 17, 2011 32 years is a bit old for a baby Less flare and better performance at f/2 & 2.8 would be welcome IMHO.
UliWer Posted October 17, 2011 Share #9 Â Posted October 17, 2011 When the new 1.4/50mm asph. was introduced, it's price increase compared to the non-asph. precedessor was just the normal inflation rate we see every year for Leica lenses. Â The 2.8/28mm asph. was considerably cheaper than it's non asph. ancestor! Â If there was a new 50 Summicron asph, I'd guess if will have a price just in between the the Sunmmarit and the Summilux; the present price for the Summicron is too close to the Summarit. lct Posted October 17, 2011 Share #10 Â Posted October 17, 2011 ...The 2.8/28mm asph. was considerably cheaper than it's non asph. ancestor!... I can't seem to retrieve the price of the 28/2.8 pre-asph in 2006 when the asph was launched. Would you recall it by chance? Just curious.
Ivar B Posted October 18, 2011 Share #11 Â Posted October 18, 2011 I asked product manager Stefan Daniel this very question a few years back during the Forum meeting, and he replied that he had given the same question to the designers several times. Apparently the answer he had received was sure, this is no problem, but not within current cost. It would appear that the lens would be comparable to the 50 Lux in terms of cost, and then probably not many would buy it. The best selling 50mm lens was by far the Summilux, outselling the nr. 2 by a factor of 2:1 as I recall. However, I agree that 32 years is a very long time and no redesign, so who knows. Would you recall it by chance? Just curious.  I found (Italian pricelists) 1495 € for 28 2,8 asph in 2008 and 1600 € for 28 2,8 "pre asph" in 2005 (uncoded at that times).
