Joachim123 Posted October 14, 2011 Share #1 Posted October 14, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have been contemplating getting a backup to my M6 any suggestions. I feel that maybe another M6 or M7 but with less and less film available it maybe wiser to purchase and M9.
Advertisement Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Hi Joachim123, Take a look here Backup to M6. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wattsy Posted October 14, 2011 Share #2 Posted October 14, 2011 If you want another camera (for different uses, a different look, etc.) then you can't go far wrong with an M9 but I'm not sure it makes for a very good backup to an M6. Far cheaper and, IMO, better to just get the M6 or M7 you are thinking about. Worry about film when/if it is actually hard to get the emulsion you want. bill Posted October 14, 2011 Share #3 Posted October 14, 2011 M2. End of story. But you will find yourself using it more and more. Regards, Bill
Stealth3kpl Posted October 14, 2011 Share #4 Posted October 14, 2011 maybe wiser to purchase and M9. The M9 is dated technology . Get another M6 or and M2. I backed mine up with an MP. I'm hoping it will brass majestically and, in 30 or 40 years when film is no longer available it will sit on my shelf as a memory of our many trips around the world together. But go ahead, buy the M9 and chuck it in a couple of years when the new one comes out! Pete

earleygallery Posted October 15, 2011 Share #7 Posted October 15, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Definately another film M, any will do. The problem with digital as a backup is that the process from capture to image is totally different. Also you need to plan ahead and make sure batteries are charged - you can't just pick up an M9 on a whim and go shooting (if it's only a backup you won't be likely to keep your batteries fully charged all the time). Don't worry about film, you'll still be using it long after the last M9 has died!
Joachim123 Posted October 15, 2011 Author Share #8 Posted October 15, 2011 Thanks all. I think another M6 would be best. A lot cheaper too!!
budrichard Posted October 15, 2011 Share #9 Posted October 15, 2011 Why do you need a backup? If not a Professional or taking otherwise important photographs, there is no need and you save considerable money. Now if you just want another M, that is different.-Dick
Joachim123 Posted October 15, 2011 Author Share #10 Posted October 15, 2011 I would like another M for a number of reasons. 1. I dont like changing lenses. Sometimes I use the 28mm then come across a portrait I would like to take and would like to use the 90mm. 2. With an extra body I can use a different type of film. Very valid reasons, which is why I used a two-body kit in college in the 1960s. Then it was usually one metered body and one without. A second M6 makes sense, as you would have the same technique with both. You might find a good M5 a bit cheaper, but then you wouldn't be satisfied with the M6! Enotslliw Posted October 17, 2011 Share #12 Posted October 17, 2011 The M 5 is a very practical second camera to the M 6. The size and heft of the 5 is perfect for the 90 Summicron or the 135...a better fit than the 6 in my hands. Put a magnifier on it and you can do anything. With the added benefit of less expense.
