macpants Posted October 11, 2011 Share #1 Posted October 11, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sorry for, what I am sure, will be an elementary question. I have a 90mm ASPH/APO on order and am a bit worried that the focussing area in the viewfinder may be a bit small for accurate focussing. I am very new to the world of Leica and rangefinder photography and do not, currently, own anything past a 50mm. Do I need a magnifier or an additional viewfinder accessory to get the best of the 90mm and, if so, what should I get? I will be using the new lens with my M9P Thanks for any advice. earleygallery Posted October 11, 2011 Share #2 Posted October 11, 2011 If you can focus your 50 then you should be able to focus the 90. The rangefinder is the same regardless of lens in case you're not aware.
farnz Posted October 19, 2011 Share #3 Posted October 19, 2011 Macpants, I use my M9-P and 90 APO-Summicron asph a lot and I find that a 1.25 magnifier certainly helps with focussing accuracy. I tried the cheapo Hong Kong magnifier from eBay and the Megapearls one but the Leica 1.25 magnifier is worth every penny imho. I haven't tried the 1.40 magnifier but acquantances who have tell me that it helps even more. The problem with using the 1.40 magnifier, and to a lesser extent with the 1.25, is that it needs to be continually removed when using a wide angle lens or the frame lines won't be visible. Pete. wda Posted October 20, 2011 Share #4 Posted October 20, 2011 Macpants, I have the 1.4x magnifier which I use with my 75mm, 90mm and 135mm lenses. It does the job well. However, make sure the attachment is secure at all times. Mine separated and part was lost before I realized it was missing. Leica replaced it for me with a new one. Since then I do subconsciously check and recheck its integrity while it is fitted and store it in its little leather case (attached to the camera strap) when using wider angle lenses.
