Alberti Posted September 28, 2011 Share #4 Posted September 28, 2011 And what back is this? I am not well versed in this type of camera. Interesting that the design dept took this well-known distance, can't be serendipity. Show this to the Leica marketing people. LOL. I too have a visoflex lying around unused. tdtaylor Posted September 28, 2011 Share #5 Posted September 28, 2011 Is that a Sony NEX-5? And as others have asked, does it work?
Alberti Posted September 28, 2011 Share #6 Posted September 28, 2011 Yes, and do you need to clean the sensor after you have used the Visoflex?
Washington Posted September 28, 2011 Author Share #7 Posted September 28, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I was given the Sony NEX-5 so I got a Leica adapter out of curiosity. I couldn't focus the thing worth a darn using the TV screen in the back. So, just for fun, I gave this some consideration and decided to try a Visoflex II backwards. As the Viso II has a manual mirror return with this rig you start with the mirror up. I set the exposure and focus as best I can on the screen....then I drop the mirror with my middle finger.... fine focus and shoot. It's silly, but the picture are sharp.... and this process doesn't take as long as it sounds. It was just something to do.
luigi bertolotti Posted September 28, 2011 Share #8 Posted September 28, 2011 Nice combo !!! And with the Nex 7 even nicer for you'd enjoy THREE finders!!! (EVF + LCD + Visoflex) ... each of them with its pluses and minuses... but I wonder if, having to carry around all this, the difference in weight and dimensions from Nex and a Leica body tends to become less important.... Washington Posted September 28, 2011 Author Share #9 Posted September 28, 2011 Luigi, You’re right as you are really holding the rig from the bottom of the Visoflex with your left hand when you shoot. Now, I sure don’t know how practical all this is but I sure am interested in the NEX-7!!! I took some pictures today with this rig…. I only had the 65mm attached…. I wish I had a 90 or 135: that’s a seven point bull elk! Welcome, dear visitor! Washington Posted September 29, 2011 Author Share #11 Posted September 29, 2011 CORRECTION: I’ve been working with this NEX rig today with a 200mm and I want to revise my operation procedure for the better: 1. Start with the mirror down and focus at maximum aperture. 2. Just lightly touch the release arm to raise the mirror. 3. NOW adjust the exposure and shoot! Washington Posted September 29, 2011 Author Share #13 Posted September 29, 2011 Luigi, I haven’t had this thing long enough to figure a lot of things out. It takes me a while to learn the settings….. I’ve ONLY used manual up until now. When I first got the thing it wouldn’t work at all with adapted Leica lenses until I realized it needed a firmware update. Secondly, the design of the little body allows the web of my thumb to hit rear buttons and really screw things up. In other words: I have to mess with it some more and get used to it. But, it works quite well all in all.

ayewing Posted September 30, 2011 Share #15 Posted September 30, 2011 Good to see you back Rip. We have missed you these past three weeks. I have been thinking of getting a backup camera that takes Leica M lenses, the possibllities include 4thirds either Panasonic or Olympus, Sony NEX or a Ricoh GXR with the recently issued Leica M module but I had not thought of usuing one with a visoflex. Thanks for the brilliant idea. It may not be entirely practical but it does look like a lot of fun.
Washington Posted October 1, 2011 Author Share #16 Posted October 1, 2011 ayewing, Thanks buddy, I'm one of those left-over vets that can get mad for no reason at all and be a real as-----e!
Washington Posted October 1, 2011 Author Share #17 Posted October 1, 2011 Luigi, Yes, this rig CAN be used with automatic exposure. It’s just the way you do it! One fine focuses with the Visoflex mirror down. Now, with a gentle push of the arm the mirror raises and it stays there (Viso II) It is now one uses the rear screen to compose and expose. The camera, set on ‘’P’’ does take a little bit to gather the exposure…. which is fine because you know you are in focus. Naturally, in Manual mode your exposure is set, so you can ‘’snap shoot’’ without taking your eye from the Viso Finder. The Viso II finder is great because it has an adjustable diopter eye-piece. Thank you for your interest! Cheers.
Washington Posted October 2, 2011 Author Share #18 Posted October 2, 2011 Ok, tomorrow is going to be interesting…now that I’ve gotten a wee bit familiar with this little camera’s settings. What I REALLY like is how the old and forgotten Visofllex II and finder is the perfect rig for this gizmo! Welcome, dear visitor! Washington Posted October 2, 2011 Author Share #19 Posted October 2, 2011 The more I use this rig the more I like it. As I said, today was field test day…. and the $12 infrared remote works great. I can’t wait for the NEX-7!!! Anyway, with the crop factor, this is a 600mm lens. Not too shabby. Those mountains are waaaaaay out there. Welcome, dear visitor!
