Advertisement Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Hi masjah, Take a look here "Do you know this building?" Game Thread. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
spylaw4 Posted December 9, 2015 Share #982 Posted December 9, 2015 Well done John, absolutely correct. It's in the grounds of Frogmore House close to Windsor Castle. https://www.royalcollection.org.uk/visit/frogmorehouse From what I remember, and it's a long time since I visited, it is only open maybe once per year generally around last weekend in August, as far I can remember, and is well worth making the trip to see inside. V & A are interred there, and the ground outside has the graves of many Royal Family members. I think you need to book your visit. Built by Victoria after Albert's death to house his remains and her's, after her passing. So over to you.

Musotographer Posted December 9, 2015 Share #986 Posted December 9, 2015 Hello everyone - This is Vanbrugh's Castle Howard in Yorkshire, made even more famous than it previously had been by ITV's sumptuous adaptation of Evelyn Waugh's Brideshead Revisited. Best wishes, Christopher

Musotographer Posted December 9, 2015 Share #988 Posted December 9, 2015 Thank you John; I'm beginning to run out of material, as I wrote in an earlier post. Here's one though: Welcome, dear visitor! war Posted December 10, 2015 Share #990 Posted December 10, 2015 Thanks Michael. This is an enormous fifteenth century manor house near London. Perhaps someone else can fill in the rest of the blanks.

spylaw4 Posted December 13, 2015 Share #992 Posted December 13, 2015 The only one I know of that looks remotely like that is Hampton Court palace, but I don't know that view.
masjah Posted December 13, 2015 Share #993 Posted December 13, 2015 The only one I know of that looks remotely like that is Hampton Court palace, but I don't know that view. Brian and Christopher, my sentiments exactly. It's very reminiscent indeed of Hampton Court, but there are significant differences from the views of HC which I have; perhaps mine are all of a different "courtyard" - this one seems somehow more tightly enclosed. Musotographer Posted December 13, 2015 Share #994 Posted December 13, 2015 (edited) This is very different from Hampton Court, though there are similarities - it's rather more domestic, though still very large - maybe the largest 'house' in Britain. A clue - it is also thought to have a connection with the numbers 365, 12 and 7. Here's the opposite view to the original photo: Welcome, dear visitor! masjah Posted December 13, 2015 Share #995 Posted December 13, 2015 Has it got 52 staircases?
Musotographer Posted December 13, 2015 Share #996 Posted December 13, 2015 I think you've got it John It did, though that number has been a bit reduced by internal changes over the years - sorry, I accidentally left 52 out of the list. masjah Posted December 13, 2015 Share #997 Posted December 13, 2015 I think this is Knole House in (or near) Sevenoaks in Kent. Never been there though. I think I've at least heard of the "Knole settee" though.
Musotographer Posted December 13, 2015 Share #998 Posted December 13, 2015 Well done John, indeed it is. I had never been until last August despite having read a great deal about it. Very interesting, though the National Trust only show a small part of it (the Sackvilles still have some of it) and it is one of those rather gloomy and 'dusty' country houses. It is thought to be a 'Calendar' house, with 365 rooms, 12 entrances, 52 staircases and 7 courtyards. Your turn! Christopher
