I haven't the remotest idea of what or where it is. Good luck to the rest of you.

stuny Posted November 7, 2014 Share #454 Posted November 7, 2014 I know I've seen this, but not for quite a number of years. One of the entrances to the West Wing of the National Gallery of Art? Regardless, I would think it's a newer Smithsonian (non-traditional) building, on the Mall.

One of the entrances to the West Wing of the National Gallery of Art? Regardless, I would think it's a newer Smithsonian (non-traditional) building, on the Mall. Right on, Stu! It's actually the East Building of the National Gallery of Art. It's undergoing a lot of renovation, both to its exterior and galleries, so it was a little tough to get a clean shot of it. Over to you!

dem331 Posted November 8, 2014 Share #457 Posted November 8, 2014 This is certainly revival architecture. A rather strange mix of romanesque and Byzantine. Many orthodox churches are built in Byzantine style but they would not have the bizarre romanesque elements, I think. It actually looks like it is two churches that have been glued together, one byzantine, the other romanesque. I would say that it is not Europe so that means it is probably north American. North America.
