masjah Posted August 20, 2011 Share #5 Posted August 20, 2011 To my mind, the funniest thing about this is charging an extra $40 for shipping.
Ivar B Posted August 20, 2011 Share #6 Posted August 20, 2011 I believe Boris bought parts of the Leica museum when Leica was desperately short of cash. I am not sure if this item is from that lot, but he seems to be very good at getting hold of the rarest items possible.
someonenameddavid Posted August 20, 2011 Share #7 Posted August 20, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) And don't forget the 1 year warranty ... Against what? Defects in manufacture? Or if the lenses begin to separate or develop fungus or oil on the diaphragm blades... And then there is the 19% VAT which adds up to about. $28000 US. The EU will have its pound of flesh...(More like a kilo) David
elgenper Posted August 21, 2011 Share #8 Posted August 21, 2011 Well, here is a much cheaper alternative; just 4000 USD...
Pecole Posted August 21, 2011 Share #9 Posted August 21, 2011 Well, here is a much cheaper alternative; just 4000 USD... Sorry, chap, but this is in no way an alternative! It is just like comparing a Leica I Elmax with the original Nullserie in the Leica Museum. A Stemar is a "current" lens manufactured and offered for sale from 1954 to 1957, and the proposed "Stereo Elmar" is a 1940-vintage prototype, most probably unique in its "complete set" form. elgenper Posted August 21, 2011 Share #10 Posted August 21, 2011 Sorry, chap, but this is in no way an alternative!.... Of course not, to the collector; I´m quite aware of that... Just saw the auction this morning, and thought it fit in with this thread in a tongue-in-cheek way.....
