Leica fast lens comparison

I found this interesting…. and the photos can easily be enlarged for further comparison.

My take was the ''inexpensive’’ Voigtlander Nokton f1.1 is quite the lens!

..... errrr...maybe.....

but it also shows the 0.95 to be in a different league completely.....

Maybe I'm looking at the examples wrong, but as soon as the lenses get to f4 the Nokton seems to hold its own extremely well. Wide open the f0.95 is a bit better (maybe), yet the Nokton beats the old Noctilux. I wouldn't say that puts the f0.95 in a different league, it may be top, but not seven times better if you want to bring price into it (where it does win the league).

In the value for money league the Nokton I agree it wins hands down...... :)

On my monitor with the centre images at full size the 0.95 stays well ahead, particularly in rendering the shadow detail till f16......

Surprisingly, the peripheral performance of the old 1.0 actually looks better than the 0.95 at wider apertures....

Anyway it's all hairsplitting when it comes down to it.... I can't see anyone being unhappy with the performance on any of these lenses in real life photography.......

..... only people checking lenses take pictures of brick walls after all......;)

Thighslapper,

You got the point! Sure, viewing at 100% magnification on a monitor is one thing

but viewing a print at 10 feet distance is another. I am fair…. and I think if you want

a Leica lens that’s just fine….. but, on the same score I am not going to deny the

qualities of another brand. I like all kinds of goofy lenses and the graphic/clinical

details do not matter to me one bit. The end result on paper does!

This "comparision" is very poor... I wouldn't take out on the basis of any conclusions.

Here's my comparison and some samples and conclusions. Sorry for the language, but you can put it in google translator :)

By the way - If i take pictures with aperture f/2 or f/8, I wold buy Summicron 50 :)

Steve,

You bet! For all practical purposes the CV will make a print the equal to Leica.

Yes, the ‘’league’’ is the I spent 10 grand league. Which doesn’t have a bunch to do

with picture making!

would definitely agree with this. The nokton is great. I have one and love it. Cannot imagine speding the extra money to get the lux. The CV performance: value ratio is really great and I am glad that this brand and lens are out there. YMMV.
