Guest srheker Posted August 9, 2011 Share #21 Posted August 9, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Pretty sure the photos have been lifted of ebay, the white glove is used by a specific seller. I will try and find a link. I think I saw this before, too! Contact to seller stopped abruptly when I was not willing to send money in an insecure way. Before that she (anyone else had contact with a male instead?) tried anything to make me do this via bank tranfer, for example offering to cover all fees etc. And of course as with any "to good to be true"-offer there was "another person interested in the lens" to create some time-pressure... Advertisement Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 Hi Guest srheker, Take a look here Noctilux for sale - cheap. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
raywu Posted August 10, 2011 Share #22 Posted August 10, 2011 I am pretty sure it is a scam. I sent a message to ask about this lens, but no reply. After a couple of days, I found there was a black paint summilux( or summicorn?) listed by another seller id. I was also interesting on the bp lens, so I asked the seller some questions. The seller's email address is "iamfilicia@xxx.xx.xx". A very familiar name to me.the user name of email is the same to the seller's Id who sells Noct. It seems the guy has two accounts on this site. 1 is form hongkong, the other one is German. Of course, he/she accepts western union or bank transfer only. I don't trust people who have two or more accounts on the same website and not accept PAYPAL.
LUF Admin Posted August 10, 2011 Share #23 Posted August 10, 2011 Dear all, thanks for keeping an eye on this. Can you in such cases do me a favor and send me a short notice? I've some tools to check the ad and to find out if it is scam. There is no 100% safety - but I think I can at least improve the odds... fabiony Posted August 18, 2011 Share #24 Posted August 18, 2011 It is definitely a scam, men. And the proof is not merely the WU/BankTransfer-thingy. The proof stands in the fact that i told him/her than i can easily make it to Hong Kong to pick up the lens and give the money in cash personally - and he/she disappeared - no reply at all. Do we need more?
SangNguyen Posted August 18, 2011 Share #25 Posted August 18, 2011 I was wondered about the safety of purchasing some leica stuffs on this forum. To reducing the risk, my tip is looking the seller's profile and see how real and nice sellers by their posts and comments. I am curious about this scam. I do not see in the adv section anymore. How was the price? Can someone please tell me?

bbbonthemoon Posted August 18, 2011 Share #27 Posted August 18, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I was wondered about the safety of purchasing some leica stuffs on this forum. I purchased few lenses on this forum, 35 1.4 FLE recently, for example, at very reasonable price. Using common sense and some precautions usually is well enough. And payment via PayPal only of course.

I did use bank transfer within Euro countries. I means that sometimes we should think about right dealers. Kind regards, SN

Using common sense and some precautions usually is well enough. And payment via PayPal only of course. Why "payment by Paypal only of course"? As a seller, I wouldn't enjoy paying 4% in fees just for an intermediary accepting a credit card on my behalf. And, when selling on eBay, it is not nice or fair to be actually "forced" to accept Paypal or your listing will not be allowed/will be removed (German sellers sued -and won- eBay/Paypal on this very issue, they are now not obliged anymore to even list Paypal as an accepted payment method if they don't wish so). Beside that, try and make a claim through Paypal: I can assure you it can be the most frustrating and time consuming experience ever, especially if high sums (it took well over a month -45 days- for me to get 1k back) are involved. And the outcome, even if you are blatantly right, is always uncertain until the very end of the process.

If the rules and proper procedures are followed, it's safe for both (and usually instant). 4%? Someone is complaining about 4%? LOL!!!! Don't do business in Canada then!!!!!!! Near 14% taxes on goods (and most of the time additional importation taxes/custom duties). Oh and bank transfers... i pay $45 to do a bank transfer. Above $1000 i pay $65 (or $75 can't remember). Paypal saves me money every week.

leicanet Posted August 18, 2011 Share #32 Posted August 18, 2011 Usually there are no fees in Europe for bank transfers of almost any amount (BACS). In my opinion Paypal may look good from a buyer point of view, but not from a seller's. And my biggest gripe is the fact the, at least on eBay UK, it is now compulsory to accept Paypal in your listing(s) otherwise you are not allowed to sell AT ALL. That's freedom of choice for us, and nice extra profits for eBay... Anyway, in Germany and many other parts of the EU there must be a lot a fraud going on, considering most eBay business is done through bank transfers and many people dislike (and do not accept) Paypal... earleygallery Posted August 18, 2011 Share #33 Posted August 18, 2011 Remember to benefit from Paypal 'protection' you must file a complaint within 45 days of the sale.

It is true that i heard in Europe that Paypal isn't as accepted as here. 95% of my sales (buying and selling) are done through paypal or EMT (Canada only). Edit: My Leica dealer sells most of his M9's online through Paypal. Most go to Toronto too...

jaques Posted August 19, 2011 Share #36 Posted August 19, 2011 This again? Geez. Paypal protects buyers/sellers. If the rules and proper procedures are followed, it's safe for both (and usually instant). . I can't let this stand: I have been using paypal for 10 years nearly- since they started. Paypal is NOT safe for the seller- and not always for the buyer either. There are many ways a seller can lose using paypal- and nearly as many for the buyer. Do not be fooled into a false sense of security by Paypal transactions. They are like any other and require common sense and research. Read the paypal term of use - before you fall for their so called 'buyer protection'. Have a look on ebay- there are thousands of scams where the sellers do offer Paypal... As a seller I am always wary of selling high priced items using paypal. You can easily lose everything and just try dealing with Paypal's so called 'investigation' process.... and paypal's fees are higher than normal bank or CC fees. Paypal is handy: but it is not foolproof. It is true: Western Union or direct bank deposit only listings are something to worry about- but Paypal does not necessarily mean 'safe'. bbbonthemoon Posted August 19, 2011 Share #37 Posted August 19, 2011 PayPal may not provide 100% protection, and thats why you still need common sense BUT, bank wire transfer payment option gives you 0% protection, since the moment you sent the money, you absolutely depend on mercy of the seller with no real abilities to resolve any possible problems, especially when buying internationally. As a seller I'd love to receive money via bank payment. But as a buyer, I would never do that, if buying from someone I do not know and trust personally. And yes I filled PayPal claims several times and it always worked just fine. But usually unfair and rogue sellers do not want to mess with PayPal, thats why I always see PayPal acceptance as important seller qualification.
